While it wasn’t originally available in the game, the 4.10 update added the option to rotate station parts to the game. That said, it can be a bit hard to get used to. This guide will tell you how to use it and give you some tips to make the best use of it.

How to Rotate Station Parts in X4 Foundations

The build mode in X4: Foundations allows you to rotate every piece of a station in full 360 degrees. It’s a bit cumbersome to use at first, however, this guide helps you understand it better with a couple of tips.

To rotate an object, you just have to place it and then right-click on it. Keep holding right click and move your mouse and you’ll start rotating it. The controls are simple enough. But there are some other things you’ll want to keep in mind.

Your Camera is your Rotation Plane

The first thing you want to know is that the rotation plane depends on your camera. You can only rotate things relative to your camera’s position. This is a bit hard to get used to, so you have to play around with it a bit. You have to move your camera around if you wish to rotate parts differently.

Use the Shift Key to Snap to Angles

If you hold the Shift key while you rotate objects, they will snap to certain angles. This helps you prevent odd rotation angles and the like. This is important because modules usually have to be connected to each other in some way. This is a simple tool but it should save you many headaches.

You can Reset Rotations

When it’s all said and done, sometimes you might be dissatisfied with how you rotated an object. You might find it a bit annoying having to rotate it back to its original position. But you don’t have to worry. Simply right-click on the offending module and select the Reset Rotation option from the pop-up menu. That will reset it to its default state instantly.
