Increasing your raw damage can only get you so far in Last Epoch if you ignore your Critical Strike Chance.

After all, Critical Strikes deal twice your damage by default. Stacking as many Critical Strike Chance increases and multipliers as possible will basically double your DPS!

In this guide, we’ll tell you how Critical Strike Chance works and how to increase it. We just hope you won’t mind reading the word “chance” a dozen times…

Critical Chance Guide – The Basics

The Critical Strike Chance stats

By default, most skills have a base set Critical Strike Chance of 5%. You can boost this with certain passive skills and, more importantly, by equipping items that increase Critical Strike Chance.

Just like the stats for damage scaling, there are two different types of Critical Strike Chance effects:

  • Added Critical Strike Chance – Also known as a “flat” increase, this effect adds a set amount of Critical Strike Chance on top of your base chance.
    • For example, +5 Critical Strike Chance would add to the 5% base to give you a chance of 10%.
  • Increased Critical Strike Chance – A percentage-based multiplier. Takes your total Critical Strike Chance (base + all flat increases) and multiplies it by a set percentage.
    • As an example, say that you have a 5% base critical chance and get an item with the “10% Increased Critical Strike Chance” effect. You will have a total 5.5% chance as a result.

Also keep in mind that there are Critical Strike Chance for different types of attacks, such as Melee or Spell. These all work the exact same, just make sure they match your attack type!

How to Guarantee Critical Strikes – 100% Critical Strike Chance

To boost your Critical Strike Chance sky high, you should first focus on “Added Critical Strike Chance”. The multiplier increases will be useless without a solid base chance, after all!

That said, the Affixes related to these effects can be a little inconsistent at times. We do have some general rules to help your search, though.

Generally speaking, the flat increases are listed as just “+X% Critical Strike Chance”. Keep stacking these as much as possible!

Once you have a decent flat Critical Strike Chance, start to stack up as many Increased Critical Strike Chance multipliers as possible.

These multipliers are almost always listed as “X% Increased Critical Strike Chance”, so keep that in mind.

It’s a good idea to set up loot filters that look for these effects as Affixes!

Make good use of both of these Critical Chance sources and you will get to the highly-coveted 100% Critical Strike Chance. All of your hits will be Critical Strikes, greatly increasing your damage output!
