Across the obelisk is a turn-based Deck building Rpg game where players use cards to initiate attacks and clear the different levels as you move towards your missions.

Released by Paradox Arc in 2021, Across the Obelisk has gained quite a following since its release.

The Game has 4 classes and 4 characters to unlock in each class. Warriors for your front line yanks, scouts for mid to long-range damage, mages for long-range magic damage and healers for support.

You start with 4 characters in the game and unlock the others while doing mission objectives or completing their quests.

Today we are going to guide you on how to get the Mage Zek and how to build him effectively.

Guide on How to Unlock and Play Zek Across the Obelisk

Zek can be obtained easily 15 minutes into the game. To do that, you have to play A grave on the Road event in ACT 1, select the profane and dig for the key. Once you finish that, you have to go to the end of the map to unlock ACT 2 and hand him the key. Zek is located at the Sewer Outlet in the Blue Area.

Character Overview

Zek is a mage who does shadow damage and dark status effects. With that in mind, levelling up his perks should be done by focusing on enhancing his Dark stacks and Shadow Damage.

For us, we used 38 general perk upgrades and 12 mystical perk upgrades. In general perks, we maximize his defensive stats and for mystical, we focus on dark stacks and enhancing his shadow damage overall.

Items and Passives

His starting item is called Soul lantern. It gives you frost and shadow resistance as well as health recovery at the start of combat.

His passive called Pestilence causes 1 stack of dark to all enemies as well as 1 stack of dark to himself. If you maximize his dark stack perks this would add up and grant 4 dark stacks to enemies as well as himself at the start of each turn.

Deck Building

To maximize his effectiveness, take the malicious eye and necrotic burst and pestilence for his deck. Remove the shadow bolts because these aren’t as effective as the curse of shadows since your main role is to inflict as many dark stacks per turn.

Card Upgrades

When upgrading cards, you should focus on the Malicious Eye for your dark stacks, the curse of exhaustion and dark pacts for burn damage, and necrotic burst to lower cast cost. You can upgrade the curse of shadows if you have the shards to spare but focus on these four first for Zek to be effective early on.

For items, focus on getting item effects that enhance your dark damage overall. Get the shadow orb and the voodoo doll for these and you are all set.

Gameplay

Zek is fairly easy to pick up and play. Focus on dealing with as many stacks as possible each turn. These in turn would cause damage at the start of each round. The higher the stacks, the higher his damage would go up.

For team composition, Zek works well together with other mages that deal damage along with him, but it would be best to have a fairly generic team with warriors at the front to soak damage and a dedicated Healer to heal your team.
