As mentioned, a fishing rod can only be used up to 64 times before it breaks. This means that each time you reel in a fish, it will decrease your rod’s durability by 1.
Luckily, there are two main ways to fix it.
The first method is to use a Grinding Stone. Basically, you have to merge two broken fishing rods in a grindstone.
This will result in a single fishing rod with a combined durability of the two rods and a 5% increase in durability. However, we’d recommend just crafting a new one at this point since fishing rods are cheap to make anyway.
The second and most efficient method is to use the Mending enchantment. Basically, what you should do is apply the Mending enchantment to your fishing rod.
This way, you will earn experience each time you successfully catch a fish. It will then use that experience you earned to repair itself.
Of course, there’s also the option of applying the Unbreaking III enchantment.
This ensures that your fishing rod won’t break no matter how many times you use it to catch fish. Just make sure its durability isn’t low in the first place.
However, this might be hard to come by as you’ll need to find the enchantment first.
You can try your luck by using your enchanting table, looking for books inside dungeon chests, or buying one from villagers.
