While the chemistry system in the FIFA franchise has been there for years, it’s actually quite different in FIFA 23. In fact, the entire chemistry system has undergone a revamp which makes the current game’s chemistry system significantly different.

In this guide, we’ll talk about the major changes in FIFA 23’s chemistry system, how it works, and more.

Ultimate Team Chemistry System Guide | How It Works in FIFA 23

Before anything else, let’s first have a brief overview of what the chemistry system is all about in the FIFA series. There’s this mechanic called Team Chemistry which allows you to enhance the overall ability of your team.

With this, you can enhance overall team performance from stat boosts for positioning and loyalty, among others.

This system has been an integral part of the series ever since its first introduction back in FIFA 14. However, it has undergone a complete revamp in the latest FIFA 23, making it more user-friendly for users.

It’s even designed to be a lot easier to understand, though players are still quite confused about how the system works.

In essence, chemistry is the connection between players in your squad. This can be affected by factors like their league, club, and nation. That means that the more players you have who are from the same club, league, or nation, the better the stats boost they get.

Back in previous FIFA games, you need to get three players with the same nation into your starting XI to get one chemistry point. At the same time, you need to have five players with the same club to get two chemistry points, and so on.

Changes to the Chemistry System

In the recent FIFA 23, however, the requirements have been lowered. Instead, you now only need two players with the same nation to get one point or four players with the same club to get two points. Here’s a breakdown of the changes in the game:

  • 2 players from the same club – 1 chemistry point
  • 4 players from the same club – 2 chemistry points
  • 7 players from the same club – 3 chemistry points
  • 2 players from the same nation – 1 chemistry point
  • 5 players from the same nation – 2 chemistry points
  • 8 players from the same nation – 3 chemistry points
  • 3 players from the same league – 1 chemistry point
  • 5 players from the same league – 2 chemistry points
  • 8 players from the same league – 3 chemistry points

As you can see, it’s now easier to achieve full chemistry due to the lower requirements in FIFA 23. Apart from that, you no longer need to create individual links between the cards. As long as you can satisfy the requirements, it’s entirely possible to have your left-back gain chemistry with your forward.

This is a huge change compared to the previous games where chemistry revolves around linking cards. Due to this, cards that weren’t linked were unable to enjoy any stat boost at all.

Chemistry with Heroes and Icons

Obviously, heroes and icons are major assets as far as FIFA’s chemistry system goes. Luckily, there are no changes in them at all in the new system. Although there are some tweaks due to the fact that links no longer have to rely on positions.

Both heroes and icons always have full chemistry as long as they’re playing in their preferred position. This will remain true regardless of the rest of the squad. Also, they both count as two players from their respective fields: icons for their nation and heroes for their league.

For example, Yaya Toure will offer twice the chemistry to players in the starting XI who are from the Premier League. Another example is Ronaldinho providing twice the chemistry to every player from Brazil. As such, this makes them quite powerful when it comes to squad building.

With the changes in the chemistry system, players who have zero chemistry won’t have to suffer from a stat penalty anymore. This means that a player who’s out of position and doesn’t have any link to any player will still keep his full stats intact.

Nonetheless, the stat boost offered by chemistry is quite beneficial, so it’s always best to achieve chemistry between your players. The higher the chemistry you have in your Ultimate Team, the more noticeable the stat boosts will be.
