FIFA 23 sporadically displays an “Unrecoverable Error” when launching on PC.

This error happens both on Steam and on Origin, and it completely prevents you from playing the game at all. That’s obviously a huge problem!

In this article, we’ll go over what causes the issue and possible fixes.

This error seems to be most frequently caused by an issue with EA’s anti-cheat software and mostly presents itself after the game receives updates.

The first thing to try is to reinstall the EA Anti-Cheat altogether. You can do this from the game’s installation folder.

Here’s how to find the game’s installation folder on Origin and Steam:

  • Origin: navigate to the game and click on Manage, then choose View Properties. You will see the install location above, just click on Browse to open it.
  • Steam: find the game in your library and right-click on it. Select Properties and then choose the Local Files option on the left side of the window. Click on the Browse button up top to open the folder.

Now look for the “_Installer” folder and then open the EAAntiCheat folder. Click on the EAAntiCheatInstaller and choose to uninstall.

When it’s done, click on the installer program again and reinstall the anti-cheat. Then try launching the game and it will hopefully work!

If that didn’t solve the issue, you may need to manually install the digital signatures.

Installing EA Anti-Cheat Digital Signatures

Back in the game’s installation folder, look for these two files:

  • EAAntiCheat.GameServiceLauncher.dll
  • EAAntiCheat.GameServiceLauncher

Right-click on one of them, open the properties and then click on the Digital Signatures tab at the top of the window.

Click on the signature to highlight it and then click on Details. Another window will pop up, click View Details here as well.

Now click on Install Certificate near the bottom of the window. Leave everything on default and just click Next and then Finish, a window should pop up telling you that the certificate was successfully imported.

Repeat the process for both files and try launching the game again. It should work now, but you might need to do this again if the error resurfaces after another update.

If nothing of the above worked, you should also reboot your computer. Also, consider updating Windows and reinstalling the game completely.
