Modern Warfare 2 has a wide array of settings that allow players to customize the game greatly.
However, some settings are simply better than others for competitive multiplayer games like this.
If you’re interested in having your game configured for the best competitive performance, this guide should tell you which settings to change!
Best Controller Settings for Season 3 in Modern Warfare 2
The first thing you want to modify in the settings is your Stick Sensitivity. Ideally, you want to set both the Horizontal and Vertical sensitivity to 5 each.
You can go a bit higher, such as 6/6 or 7/7 if you want, but 5/5 is the recommended setting as it maximizes the aim assist.
Also, set the ADS Sensitivity Multiplier to 0.90 to get some extra precision when using ADS (Aiming Down Sights).
Further down in the settings, look for the Automatic Sprint setting. You want to set this setting to “Automatic Tactical Sprint” which is a huge game changer.
Next, move to the Advanced tabs of the settings.
Make sure your Aim Assist is set to On and that it’s set to the Default aim assist type. While Black Ops used to be the best setting, the default setting became the best with a recent update.
Moving on, set your Aim Response Curve Type to Dynamic. This will give you the best and most precise aiming possible on a controller.
For your Input Deadzones, make sure to set the Left Stick Max to 0.95. This will make it so you don’t need to push the stick all the way to start sprinting.
The Left Stick and Right Stick minimum deadzones should both be 0.05. However, feel free to raise the deadzone if your controller exhibits stick drifting!
Also, make sure that both the Left and Right triggers have their deadzones set to 0.00. Having a deadzone on the triggers will just make them feel less responsive.
Lastly, make sure to set Invert Slide and Dive Behavior to Inverted. This will allow you to dive by tapping, instead of sliding.
Diving is more useful than sliding, generally speaking, so you want it to be easier to do.
Best Graphics Settings
The first thing you want to change is the Brightness under the Display tab. It depends on your own screen, but we recommend setting it a tad brighter than you would usually have it set to.
This will make darker areas appear brighter, which will help you notice enemies that try to hide in them.
In the Quality tab, disable useless effects that make it harder to see what’s going on.
But before that, disable On Demand Texture Streaming first! When set to on, the game will download high-quality textures as they are needed during gameplay. This can cause lag spikes, so disable it.
Also, disable effects like Persistent Damage Layers or Bullet Impacts, and consider lowering graphics quality to Normal for things like Textures.
This should give you a higher framerate while also making the game appear clearer.
At the bottom of the settings list, look for Post Processing Effects. You absolutely want to make sure these 4 settings are completely disabled.
Depth of Field, World Motion Blur, and Weapon Motion Blur just add unnecessary blurriness to the game while Film Grain just adds noise to the visuals.
Next, move to the View tab of the settings.
Here, you want to adjust your Field of View to something between 105 to 120. Competitive players vouch that they get better aim assist at 105, but 120 will allow you to see more on-screen at once.
Also, make sure that your ADS Field of View is set to Affected while your Weapon Field of View is set to Wide. Both of these settings will improve visibility while aiming.
Lastly, set both the 1st and 3rd person Camera Movement settings to Least, as this will reduce unnecessary camera shake that can mess with your aim in the heat of combat.
There you have it! These are the best current settings for controllers and graphics in Modern Warfare 2, at least from a competitive standpoint.
