If you want to dive into the Warhammer 40K universe, then now is the time to do so with the launch of the Warhammer 40: Darktide playtest. But as a beginner to the franchise, you have to keep in mind that this game is tough and challenging.

Luckily, I have prepared some tips that will help you play the game and even beat it.

Beginner’s Guide | Top Tips to Consider in Warhammer 40K: Darktide

We’re going to cover the top 3 tips that you want to consider when you start playing Warhammer 40K: Darktide. They’re as follows:

Mobility is Key

First off, the game thrusts you into the hive city of Tertium where you’ll be fighting hordes of enemies. As such, staying in a single spot is not advisable as their numbers will easily overwhelm you. This is particularly true if you’re planning on using a melee weapon.

The best course of action is to be on the move at all times when fighting. You can do this by performing dodges all the time as you swing your weapon. This allows you to still remain damaging your enemies while evading any potential attack that could hit you.

In this game, you have to assume that there will always be an enemy right next to you. So if you stay in your spot, then chances are that enemy will be able to kill you.

Learn Your Role

Darktide is a gory and brutal game, but it’s not all about crushing all of your enemies to death. In fact, it offers several roles that each player should familiarize themselves with in order to increase their chances of completing their mission.

Your role will depend on various factors including your weapons, class, armor, and even your preferred playstyle. The roles in this game were adopted from the previous Vermintide game which includes the following:

  • Boss Killer – As the name implies, this one excels at dealing high single-target damage against bosses.
  • Crowd Controller – This role specializes in keeping your enemies staggered to prevent them from attacking you and your teammates. It mainly uses weapons that are good at hitting various enemies in a single attack such as the pipe and the shotgun.
  • Elite Killer – This one focuses on quickly taking down the elite enemies which have way higher health and deal more damage than the normal enemies.
  • Special Killer – Like the Elite Killer, the Special Killer focuses on taking down a single type of enemy. This time, it will aim for the Special enemies right before they can deal damage to your teammates. These are enemies that have the ability to take out the entire team if left unattended.
  • Support – The Support role specializes in providing support to your team. This includes healing your teammates, reducing the damage they take, and a whole lot more. This one relies more on your class and perks instead of the weapons you use.

However, since you can only have up to 4 players in a party, you will mostly have to take on 2 or 3 of these roles at all times. Of course, it’s possible to just focus on a single role, but familiarizing yourself with the other roles can help you adapt to various situations.

Be Aware of Your Surroundings

This is a no-brainer tip for pretty much all shooter games out there. In Darktide, your enemies will be all around you. As such, it’s important to develop an awareness of your surroundings and where you currently are.

Do your best to stick with your teammates, and if you happen to get separated, make sure you know where they are. This way, you can easily go back to them to provide even more assistance depending on your role.

Also, it’s best to be aware of your enemies. This is especially true when dealing with special and elite enemies, as knowing where they are can let your teammates deal with them swiftly. If you specialize in killing those enemies yourself, then awareness will help you take them out before they take out your team.
