As you explore the vast world of Subnautica 2, you’ll eventually come across Bloom Infestations, which are basically hazardous zones filled with swarms of aggressive fish that can deal significant damage if you’re not careful.

The annoying part is that you can’t really brute force your way through them. This means that unless you get rid of the Bloom Infestation, certain parts are effectively off-limits.

If you do manage to cleanse the infestation, you’ll be rewarded with access to certain areas and be able to unlock new Adaptations. In this guide, I’ll show you how you can deal with Bloom Infestations quickly and effectively.

They are visually distinct, so you should be able to recognize them with their purple roots and a bunch of glowing white buds at the top.

As soon as you reach a Bloom Infestation’s range, you’ll then get attacked by small Bloom fish that will deal decent damage. They can get especially dangerous if they start attacking you in groups.

However, you can’t just go near a Bloom Infestation and start clearing it right away. You need a special tool called the Sonic Resonator for that task.

Crafting the Sonic Resonator

Sonic Resonator Location Subnautica 2

As with most tools in the game, you need to scan two old versions of the Sonic Resonator before it becomes available for crafting in your Fabricator.

To find one, head to the Spider Dome POI, which is roughly 240 meters away from your starting Lifepod. Dive below it and look for a small container containing a Sonic Resonator (as shown in the image above).

Sonic Resonator Second Location Subnautica 2

Another location for a Sonic Resonator scan is located roughly 345 meters northwest of the starting Lifepod.

Here, you’ll see a sunken ship with a Bloom Infestation right next to it. Look for a gap in the ship’s side that you can enter, and you should find a Sonic Resonator lying on the ground in one of its corners.

After that, head to your base and craft the Sonic Resonator using 1 Basic Battery, 2 Titanium Ingots, 2 Lead, and 1 Wiring Kit.

Dealing with the Infestation

How to Deal with Bloom Infestation Subnautica 2

Now that you have a Sonic Resonator, it’s time to head to a Bloom Infestation to take it down. The clearing process is actually straightforward.

All you have to do is locate these glowing white buds that you can find attached to the root structures. Then, charge your Sonic Resonator and fire at the buds to destroy them. It only takes a single charge to destroy each bud.

Rinse and repeat the process until all of the glowing buds are destroyed. Simply follow the purple roots as they’ll point you to where the other buds are.

Don’t forget that the Bloom fish will continue attacking you while you’re busy clearing the infestation. However, I recommend ignoring them and just focusing on destroying the buds.

While you can take them down in a single Sonic Resonator charge, you’re better off using that charge on the buds instead.

As soon as you destroy all buds, it will then clear the Bloom Infestation alongside all of the infected fish.

What Do You Get from Clearing Bloom Infestations?

Angel Comb Reward Subnautica 2

After you successfully clear a Bloom Infestation, you will then access a new Angel Comb, which will grant you a new Adaptation.

In case you’re wondering, an Adaptation grants you specific passive upgrades to your character. Specifically, they can provide you with various traits that help you survive various conditions.

For example, there’s the Heat Tolerance Adaptation that makes it possible to enter high temperature biomes and survive their intense heat.

As such, clearing Bloom Infestations isn’t optional if you want to survive and progress through the game’s harsh environment.
