Gold is a pretty useful resource in Subnautica 2, so you’ll want to have all the tools and know the best locations to gather it.

For the most part, Gold is required for late-game crafting. It’s not a currency, since the aquatic creatures you meet in this game aren’t really the bartering types! Nonetheless, Gold is useful.

In this quick guide, I’ll tell you everything you need to get Gold.

What Tools You Need to Get Gold

Before we start, you’ll need two things first. Though, technically speaking, it’s really only one thing! Anyway, you’ll need the Sonic Resonator and the Heat Tolerance Adaptation.

You can find the blueprint for the Sonic Resonator pretty easily by going 400m north of the Lifepod, taking you to the Blackbox – Quaker signal. If you need help, the next video shows how to easily find it.

Once you’ve scanned the Sonic Resonator, you’ll need to get a Fully Functional Fabricator. This will require you to make your own Habitat and place a Fabricator within. For all the details, we have a guide on how to get a Fully Functional Fabricator.

When you finally have that set up, you can craft the Sonic Resonator at the Fabricator by using 1 Basic Battery, 2 Titanium Ingots, 2 Lead, and 1 Wiring Kit.

Aside from the Sonic Resonator, you’ll also need the Heat Tolerance Adaptation, as I mentioned previously. That is its own process and requires the Sonic Resonator as well. So, for all the details, check out our guide on obtaining the Heat Tolerance Adaptation.

See, that’s why I said you technically only need one thing, since Heat Tolerance requires the Sonic Resonator anyway! Regardless, you’ll need it to survive in the areas where Gold is found.

Aside from those, I would also recommend getting the Wakemaker. It will help you get around faster, which is always convenient. The Tadpole is also helpful.

So, those are the tools you need! What about the locations, then?

Where to Get Gold | Best Locations

When you have all of the tools required, you’ll need to go to the hot areas. You’ll want to go approximately 400 meters east of the Lifepod for them.

Once you get to the hot area, you really just need to look around. You’ll find Gold lodged along the cliffs and corals in there! You can just approach them and grab them normally.

For further reference, the video below shows how to reach the hot biome and some key Gold spots there.

However, do note that sometimes you find larger Gold nodes. To collect those larger nodes, you’ll need to break them with the Sonic Resonator first. Other than that, though, they’re easy to collect as well.

Aside from the surface, you should also keep your eyes open for cave entrances here. Using the Lifepod as a reference point again, there would be one a bit to the south once you reach the hot area. It’s the one shown above.

Cave systems like this one have a lot of Gold, both in small and large nodes. So, this would be the best location.

In fact, as of this writing, this hot biome is the only location where you can currently find Gold. It doesn’t spawn in any of the other regions, and the biome itself is relatively small, making Gold easy to spot.

So, there you have it! Now you know the best locations for Gold in Subnautica 2 and all of the tools that you’ll need to gather it. Frankly, getting the tools themselves is tougher than the Gold, but that’s also kind of a relief…
