As you explore the vast sea in Subnautica 2, you might start to wonder what would be the best locations for you to make a base.

After all, there is a lot to consider. Things such as access to power sources, the nearby fauna, distance to resource hotspots, and more! It’s all quite a lot to take in, really…

Thankfully, I’ll make this easy for you by giving you some recommended locations for bases!

Near Wander Black Box

For the first location, I thought it’s fitting to talk about an early-game spot! This one is 180m northeast of the Lifepod, around where the Black Box – Wander signal is located.

There are two main reasons why this is a fantastic spot: the space and the resource availability. You have a lot of space to expand your base in, while the nearby area and caves are full of basic resources like Titanium.

As for the main issues, however… it’s in an area that’s full of Nibbler Mangos and Hammerheads. They aren’t a real threat, but they can be extremely obnoxious while you’re building the base!

All in all, though, it’s a pretty solid spot for your first base. It has easy access to a lot of resources you need early and enough space for you to play with.

Edge of the Hot Biome

For the next base, this is a tad later in the game and close to the hot biome. The water in this biome can go well over 80º, so you’ll need the Heat Tolerance Adaptation to survive!

Regardless, to reach this spot, you’ll need to go exactly 500m east from where the Lifepod is located. You should notice that you end up fairly close to the very edge of the hot biome itself, but not inside of it.

This is a solid mid-game base location. It’s not too far from the starting area, while also being close to the hot biome that you’ll need to go through soon. So, it has solid access to a wide variety of resources.

Additionally, this is a good spot for a base that requires a lot of Energy. You’re not too deep down, so Solar Panels are still good, but the hot water nearby also gives you access to thermal power sources.

On top of all of that, it’s also a pretty safe spot to build in! Which is sort of surprising, considering the trench nearby.

In short, a very solid mid-game base location, as it’s relatively close to all of the resources you’ll need to gather as you explore further east.

Endgame Base

For the final base recommendation, this one is 1300m east from the Lifepod and about 120m deep underwater. There is a wreck in that area, which you can build around to set up your base.

Now, let’s get the main negative out of the way first! As I said, there is a wrecked habitat already in the area. You can not use it as part of your base, so it somewhat hinders your building potential.

So yeah, some debris gets in the way. It’s not a deal breaker, but it’s annoying nonetheless. Aside from that, though? There are a lot of positives!

To start, this base has access to pretty much all the Energy you could want. You can use the nearby currents for hydroelectric power and there are hot waters for thermal power about 100m below.

Even better, the Solar Panels still work in this spot, too! They can help provide some extra Energy to help the other sources, if you need it at all.

This base is also decently close to pretty much every resource you need by the endgame. You have a 300-400m radius around this spot that’s ripe with loads of resources for you to hoard!

Perhaps the only resource you might lack are some of the plants that grow back in the starting area around the Lifepod. So, make sure to prepare for that! But that’s just a minor limitation.

Ultimately, this final spot is by far the best base location I know of in the game. It has access to everything you need and the area is surprisingly safe. It might take a while to get here, though, since it’s quite far into the game.

Wrapping Up

Those are what I consider the best locations to make your very own base in Subnautica 2! One for each major point of the game, since you will want to change your base as you progress anyway.

So, I hope these helped you pick a spot or two to set a base in. If you want more help with this, though, we also have a guide with various tips for early-game base building!
