In Subnautica, the Fabricator is perhaps the most important piece of equipment you can install on your base. After all, it’s where you can craft most of the items you’ll ever need.

While you can still have the same fabricator in Subnautica 2, the problem is that you won’t get access to a fully functional service right away. Instead, the game will hand you a jailbroken version, which you can only use to craft basic, early-game recipes.

Unfortunately, that’s as far as you can go when it comes to crafting early on. To gain full access to the recipes, you need to get a fully functional fabricator. Here’s how.

How to Get a Fully Functional Fabricator in Subnautica 2

You start the game with a Fabricator pre-installed in your lifepod in Subnautica 2. The only problem is that it’s a jailbroken version, meaning you can only craft basic items on it.

You won’t be able to “fix” it either. Sadly, the game doesn’t really tell you what that even means.

If you interact with the pre-installed Fabricator, you’ll get a prompt that says “Corrupted: Requires Fully Functional Fabricator” when you attempt to craft a more advanced item.

Getting a fully functional fabricator means building your own, and to do this, you need to engage with the game’s base building mechanics and build your own base.

Build Your Own Base

Building a Base in Subnautica 2

To build your own base, you’ll need the Habitat Builder tool. You can find it lying inside sea caves or at the Digestion Angel Comb.

Scan at least two of them to unlock the blueprint, then craft it at the jailbroken Fabricator using 2 Titanium, 1 Glass, 1 Basic Battery, and 1 Copper Wire.

With the Habitat Builder in hand, choose a spot to build your base. Just build a simple base, and make sure to install at least one solar panel on the roof to generate power for your base.

Building a Fabricator in Subnautica 2

Once you’re done, simply head inside your base and build your own Fabricator. You can place it anywhere you want.

And that’s pretty much it! Do note that it will still display as a jailbroken version when you interact with the Fabricator. However, you should now be able to access all of the recipes that you have unlocked.
