To become one of the most infamous pirates to sail the waters of Skull and Bones, you are going to need to find a bunch of Wood Tar, Magnetite Ingot, and Greenheart Planks. These are essential for building high-quality ships and weapons like the Hullbreaker Brigante. Let’s sail through where to find them and how you can stock up.

As with most of the materials that you will need in the game there are three primary methods of gathering what you need. This includes buying supplies from vendors, making your own, and the old classic – pillaging and piracy.

Wood Tar can only be acquired by purchasing or pillaging. There are no common resources for you to make your own.

For Magnetite Ingots and Greenheart Planks, however, all three methods are on the cards.

Purchase

Vendor at Sainte-Amelie where you can find all items

For a quick fix, all three of these items can be purchased from the vendor at Sainte-Amelie. However, as you will see this can get pretty expensive and involve a lot of wait time for the vendors to restock.

To find other settlements and ports where these materials are sold you can use the tracking feature for your map. Tracking is, in fact, an essential tool for all three methods of gathering supplies so here is a recap if you are not familiar with it.

Tracking Materials

From your Knowledge tab go to your codex. From there you can select any item from ships to weapons to raw or refined materials.

Find and click on Wood Tar, Greenheart Planks or Magnetite Ingots and select the track option on the information page. Doing this will add location markers to your map!

These three resources are all refined materials so the mini icons marking their locations will only appear on settlements, forts, and trade routes where they can be purchased.

Piracy and Pillaging

Of course, there is danger in this method because you are in for a fight. However, you will reap great rewards for your efforts should you succeed.

Trade routes and settlement locations also mark where you are likely to find targets carrying the loot you want. Make use of your scope to scout out ships at sea to check if they have the resources you are looking for on board.

Attack the ones that do, and take them down to take their loot. Don’t forget to board the ship if you want to maximize the amount of loot you receive from each vessel.

You can also plunder many of the settlements which stock your resources. Just beware that danger increases with the number of reinforcements from ships and land defenses.

Wood Tar tip: Compagnie ships around the Red Isles often carry wood tar.

Make it Yourself

Greenheart wood locations

If you don’t feel like spending money buying, or resources repairing your ship after battle, the Refinery in Sainte Anne is going to be your first mate on this.

Refined materials have common forms that you can collect from the wild. For Magnetite Ingots this is the raw metal Magnetite, and for Greenheart Planks it is the raw wood Greenheart.

Track these raw materials from your codex and pull your ship up alongside their locations on land to harvest them. Make sure you have a Pickaxe for the metal and a Saw for the wood to harvest them both effectively.

Return to the refinery with your harvested materials and pay a small fee to have them refined into the form you need. You will need five pieces of wood per plank and three metals per ingot.

May fair winds guide your harvesting endeavors!
