AndrésYou can meet Chamberlain Ulrich as part of the “For Whom the Bell Tolls” quest in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, and he asks you for a potion to cure his stomach.
At this point in the game, Henry is basically a prisoner and he needs to find Hans. Thankfully, the chamberlain is keen to help those who help him out. Bring him a Digestive Potion and he’ll allow you to explore Trosky Castle more freely. It’s a classic win-win situation!
In this guide, we’ll tell you how to either find or make a Digestive Potion for the chamberlain.
Digestive Potion for the Chamberlain Location | “For Whom the Bell Tolls” Quest

You can find the Digestive Potion to help the Chamberlain with his stomach ulcer at the top of the “Crone”, as Chamberlain Ulrich calls it. That’s the Alchemy tower in the Trosky Castle. To reach it, we’ll use the Chamberlain’s location as our starting point.

After you talk to Chamberlain Ulrich in the kitchen, take the exit to the south. You should spot some wooden stairs in front of you, take them.

Once you’re up the stairs, follow the rampart to your right all the way southwest to enter a building.

Inside the building, continue through the door on the far side, opposite of the room’s entrance. You’ll still be facing southwest.

Take the stairs directly in front of you and keep going up two flights of stairs.

Then, you should be in the room shown above. Continue forward to find some stone stairs you can take to get higher in the tower.

Follow the stairs up until you reach a narrow corridor with two rooms, as shown above.
Now, you have two options here. You can either take the door to your left to try to get a pre-made Digestive Potion or the door to the right to make your own.
Acquiring the Digestive Potion

If you wish to get a pre-made Digestive Potion, take the door on your left. However, be warned: this will require you to pick a Hard lock on a chest. If you need help picking locks, check out our lockpicking tips and tricks.

If you go this route, simply enter the room on the left and look for the chest on the northern side of the room. Use your lockpicking skills to open it and claim the Digestive Potions within. You’ll also be able to get 2 Fever Tonicums, which you also require for this quest. You already opened up the chest and all, so you might as well grab those too!
Crafting the Digestive Potion

If you don’t want to deal with Hard locks, though, you can take the door to your right. It will take you to a room with an Alchemy Bench and a chest full of materials. The chest has a Very Easy lock, so you’ll still need to use your lockpicking skills, but it’s a lot easier!

You’ll encounter Katherine, one of the maids, as soon as you enter the room. You can talk to her if you wish, as she’ll confront you about you being there. She doesn’t really care much about what you’re doing there, but you can tell her the Chamberlain sent you if you wish.

Either way, wait for Katherine to leave the room and then open the chest she was messing with. As we mentioned before, it’s a Very Easy lock so it shouldn’t be too much trouble to open. This chest is full of Alchemy materials, so we recommend grabbing everything you can!

Now, turn to the northern side of the room to find the Alchemy Table. Interact with it to use it and start making the Digestive Potion.

Here’s the recipe for it:
- Ingredients: Water, Nettle x1, Thistle x2, Charcoal x1
- Add the Thistle to the cauldron and boil for 2 turns.
- Grind the Nettle and add it to the cauldron.
- Boil for 1 turn.
- Grind the Charcoal and add it to the cauldron.
- Finally, pour.
Before leaving, explore the room more to find out what medicine to give Captain Thomas, as well.

With the Digestive Potion in hand, return to Chamberlain Ulrich back at the kitchen. Give the chamberlain the potion to cure him of his stomach ulcer and he’ll grant you more access to the castle, making the “For Whom the Bell Tolls” quest a lot easier in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2. Objective completed!
