Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, just like the first game from years before, has a whole plethora of confusing and frustrating quest steps and mechanics. During the quest For Whom the Bell Tolls, which is seemingly hated by many, there are a lot of needlessly difficult steps to complete. In this guide, we will walk you through the part where you have to give Captain Thomas some medicine.

Find Out What Medicine to Give to Captain Thomas

There are a few ways to make certain parts of For Whom the Bell Tolls easier, but you can also fumble things and be forced to go through a bit of stealth as well. In this guide, we will try to help you out in case you failed some speech checks and have to sneak around.

In order to save your buddy, you need to find a way to heal Captain Thomas, and as the quest text indicates, you have to figure out how to do so by checking the sawbones’ medical book. Follow the quest marker on your map to get to the surgeon’s room.

Before you head up the stairs to the building, though, go to the room below (door highlighted in the image). This is a bathing area, and you will find some food on some of the tables. You will need one for the next part, so go ahead and steal a piece when nobody is looking.

Proceed up the stairs and you will find a guard standing beside another flight of steps. He will complain about being hungry, so give him the piece of stolen food in your inventory. He does not care if it is stolen, so don’t worry about that.

Follow all of the stairs leading up, ignoring every other room along the way. Be careful of any guards as you ascend, since it is possible to run into one.

Eventually, you will make it to where the quest marker is leading you, which is the surgeon’s room. One last obstacle is in your way. Katherine is in here snooping around as well, but even if you fail the speech checks, she will leave the room anyway.

Inside, you will find the physician’s journal on the shelf directly in front of the door. Go ahead and pick it up, then read it to find out what potion you will need to help Captain Thomas.

It will tell you that you need a fever tonic, and the recipe should now be unlocked for you. Luckily, there is an alchemy station in this room, and everything you will need is already in here. Just pick the lock on one of the chests in this room and you will find all the necessary ingredients, among others.
