Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 lets you customize your horse with various bits of tack, which are varying kinds of gear that serve different purposes. In the game, there are a few different categories of tack that you can put on whichever trusty steed you are currently using, but you might not be clued in on what they are for due to the lack of information. Here is a quick summary of what each item type does!

All Horse Equipment Explained

Before we begin, there are four different types of horse tack in the game, and these are horseshoes, saddles, bridles, and torso accessories. Each of them have varying benefits, but can also come with a few downsides. Let us get to each category and what they do:

Horse Tack – Torso

Torso accessories, which range from cloth capes to complex harnesses, are mainly used in the game to improve your horse’s courage. Some of them provide a bit of defensive bonuses too, though a lot will have zero stats across the board outside of courage.

The downside for these items is that the vast majority of them will also decrease your ride’s carry capacity and even their stamina in some cases. There are a handful that will increase the capacity, though it should be noted that these almost all of these accessories reduce speed to some degree as well.

Horse Tack – Bridles

Bridles, on the other hand, will increase a horse’s speed and stamina. These do not affect any other stats and do not really provide protective bonuses. However, there is a bit of a twist in this category.

Chanfrons fall under this type of tack in the game as well. For the uninitiated, they are basically like helmets for horses, and these do provide protective bonuses unlike the regular bridles. The downside to wearing these is that they will reduce speed, though they can also increase a horse’s courage.

When it comes to choosing which type of tack for this category is appropriate for your horse, you will just have to decide what you value more. If you need the horse to just be fast and able to gallop long, bridles are ideal. If you like taking it with you into the heat of battle, chanfrons will help a lot.

Horse Tack – Saddles

Saddles, as one would probably expect, can increase a horse’s capacity while also potentially slowing down its speed depending on how heavy it is. They do not provide any defensive stats, so you just need to decide how much weight you need on it and whether you are fine with the speed debuff.

Unless you always find yourself in a rush, you might want to get something like the Dragon saddle or Cracowian saddle for maximum capacity. This should let you carry an absurd amount of loot around. If you are a loot hoarder and like making money by selling, definitely consider these options.

Horse Tack – Horseshoes

Finally, the horseshoes are accessories that will boost a horse’s speed and, for some reason, provide some very small defensive bonuses as well. There are only a handful of these in the game, so you are not going to have a hard time deciding which one is the best for you.

The best type you can get are called the Racing horseshoes. These give your horse a +5 speed buff, while all of the other options will give you stats ranging from +1 to +4. That is really all there is to this category.

In fact, that is also everything you need to know when it comes to what each type of horse tack does in the game. Unless there is new DLC that introduces more tack to the game, there is not a whole lot else to learn about them.

While you are here, make sure to check our guide on the ten best horses that have good stats in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2. Your current mount’s base stats are just as important as the types of tack that you put on it, especially since a really good horse can completely negate the downsides of what would otherwise be an amazing piece of equipment.
