Enshrouded doesn’t really have much in the way of a tutorial, so players often fall into certain common mistakes that they would otherwise avoid.

Things like setting up your first base in the wrong spot or ignoring the benefits of in-game food can make the game a lot harder than it should be!

In this guide, we’ll give you 10 tips to avoid common mistakes as you take on the Shroud and its horrors.

The Top 10 Mistakes to Avoid in Enshrouded

Keep Your First Base Close to Longkeep

As soon as you head out of the Cinder Vault and into the open world, you will be given a recommended location for your first base. This location is close to an abandoned town called Longkeep.

It’s an extremely good idea to follow the game’s advice and set down your first base next to Longkeep. Don’t stray too far from it!

The main reason is that Longkeep is a great source of materials, including things like Water. Building your base nearby will allow you to loot it whenever you want.

Save Your Potions

If you took a lot of damage during a fight, it might be tempting to drink a Potion to quickly recover your health. However, you should save your Health Potions and only use them during battles!

Instead, you should consume food, such as Berries. Most food provides a passive Health Regeneration effect that lasts for quite a while. It’s good enough to heal you between fights without using up Potions.

Don’t Ignore Food Buffs

Speaking of food, it’s a good idea to take advantage of the buffs it provides whenever possible! Even the buffs from drinking Water can be a game-changer in Enshrouded.

A lot of people make the mistake of just avoiding food altogether since you’re not really required to eat consistently in this game.

Nonetheless, the food buff effects are extremely helpful and you can have up to three different effects at the same time. Make sure to eat up every now and then!

Don’t Get Overly Attached to Equipment

You might feel that you are obligated to keep your old equipment for a long time, especially after you upgrade it. But, that’s just not how the equipment works in Enshrouded.

Instead, you should try to change your equipment for newer ones frequently, focusing on their Level. Higher-level equipment will always be better than lower-level equipment!

Salvage Old Gear

Speaking of your old equipment, though, it doesn’t have to be completely useless junk. Instead, you should make sure to Salvage anything you don’t need anymore.

You can just click on items in your inventory and choose to Salvage them, which will exchange the item for Runes. Use these Runes to upgrade your new equipment and keep getting stronger!

Don’t Go Into the Red Mist

Top 10 Mistakes to Avoid in Enshrouded - Deadly Shroud

You might come across some red mist as you explore the world, and it’s a good idea to make sure you avoid going into it.

The red mist is known as Deadly Shroud, an even stronger variant of the usual Shroud mist. Being inside Deadly Shroud can kill you in seconds, so you don’t even want to get close to the stuff.

There are ways to lessen its effects by upgrading your Flame Altar, thankfully, so it’s only a temporary roadblock. Nonetheless, avoid it when possible.

Don’t Delay Finding the NPCs

There are multiple craftspeople for you to find in Enshrouded, usually locked away in Vaults. They include characters like the Hunter or the Alchemist.

A lot of players make the mistake of ignoring these NPCs in Enshrouded, taking forever to rescue them. But, they actually greatly expand your ability, giving you access to new crafting recipes and mechanics.

So, it’s a good idea to try to rescue them as soon as you get the chance to!

Get a Backpack Extension

On the note NPCs, the Hunter in particular is extremely useful. She will allow you to craft Backpack Extensions, which will expand your inventory greatly.

This will allow you to carry more stuff in a single trip, making sure that you don’t miss out on any important materials or loot!

Upgrade Chests to Magic Chests

By default, Chests in your base will hold a large amount of items but won’t allow you to automatically draw items from them for crafting.

That means that you will need to manually get items out of Chests whenever you want to use them. This can be a huge pain and a waste of time, but there’s a way to fix that!

Later on, you can start making Magic Chests using Shroud Cores. Materials inside these Magic Chests will be automatically used when crafting, cutting down on your manual labor.

Kind of a shame that such a big Quality of Life feature is locked behind an upgrade, but at least it exists at all!

Don’t Stay Up At Night

Top 10 Mistakes to Avoid in Enshrouded - Night

Our last mistake you want to avoid in Enshrouded is a simple one: just don’t stay up at night. This is particularly true for the early game, as you will be too underprepared to deal with nighttime.

Not only is it incredibly dark, but you will also be assailed by constantly spawning Fell enemies. It can quickly lead to death!

Additionally, sleeping in a bed when you have warmth and shelter will provide you with the Rested buff.

Being Rested will greatly increase your Stamina and Stamina Regeneration for a long time, so always make sure to rest up.
