In The Finals players have access to one of three build classes: Light, Medium and Heavy. The game has an emphasis on team-based combat, where each class serves an essential role in the team.
The Light class is quick on their feet meaning they’re great for running and gunning. The Medium class works well as a support build, healing their teammates and providing additional fire.
This leaves the Heavy build in the defense role, soaking up the damage and protecting your teammates.
Complete Beginner’s Guide to Heavy Class
This guide aims to breakdown the gameplay basics of the Heavy class, see what playstyles it leans into and dive into the best loadouts for the class.
Essentials Of The Heavy Class
The heavy build works best in a defensive role due to its tank-like nature. You have the highest health count in the game at 350HP and you’re the largest target, so get ready to soak up the damage on behalf of your teammates.
You’ll want to make sure you have a strong medium build player in your team, since with their healing beam and defibrillator they’ll keep that health bar up whilst you sustain damage.
The heavy class is great for destruction and opening up roots to objectives. Your slower speed means you’re not going to be chasing after enemies, but armed with explosives and a sledgehammer you can knock down walls and wreak absolute havoc.
Heavy Class Specializations
Like the other builds, you have three specialisations available to you. These all lean into your defensive role and can suit different playstyles and game modes. They are:
Charge ‘n’ Slam – lets you crash through walls, smash holes into the floor and knock down enemies.
Goo Gun – Fires goo that solidifies on impact. Can be used to fortify your objectives, barricade teammates or make platforms.
Mesh Shield – A wide reaching horizontal shield. Prevents incoming projectiles and lets teammates fire out of it.
Depending on your playstyle and team dynamic, you’ll select one of these. If you’re looking to really defend your teammates, then the Goo Gun and Mesh Shield are great for blocking projectiles and creating a base.
If you want a more hands on approach, the Charge ‘n’ Slam is perfect for opening up routes to your objectives – just be ready to sustain a lot of damage.
Best Weapons For The Heavy Class
When selecting your weapons in the Heavy Class, you’ll want to make sure you are complimenting your specialization choice. The following weapons will be available to you:
M60 – A light machine gun
SA1216 – Heavy shotgun
M32 GL – Grenade Launcher
Flamethrower – What it says on the tin!
Sledgehammer – A high damage melee weapon.
As a general rule of thumb, if you chose the Charge ‘n’ Slam, you’ll want to pair it with the Sledgehammer, otherwise opt for a Shotgun or Grenade Launcher.
The Sledgehammer works well with theCharge ‘n’ Slam due to its ability to knock holes into walls and instantly kill a light build with its heavy attack. You’ll appear like an absolute juggernaut in the game!
Since the Mesh Shield and Goo Gun are defensive specialisations, the Grenade Launcher or Shotgun work well with them. They are high damage weapons with a short range that can be very destructive.
Optimal Gadgets for the Heavy Build
The Finals lets you play with so many gadgets that it can be overwhelming at first – you can check out our Best Gadgets Tier List to see what work and what don’t. For the heavy class you’ll have access to:
Frag Grenade
Flashbang
Incendiary Grenade
Goo Grenade
Gas Grenade
C4
Explosive Mine
Incendiary Mine
Barricade
RPG-7
Dome Shield
Night Vision
That’s a lot gadgets to chose from! Hence for the Heavy class we recommend: RPG-7, Dome Shield and C4.
The RPG-7 is essential if you’ve chosen the sledgehammer as your weapon, since it’s the only way you’ll get any range on enemies.
The Dome Shield acts as a protective barrier which blocks incoming projectiles and allows some outgoing fire. This is great for a defensive playstyle as it can be used to protect your teammates at objectives.
The C4 is perfect for blowing up walls and otherwise wreaking havoc! If you’ve gone for the Charge ‘n’ Slam, selecting the Goo Grenade will optimise your loadout by letting you build some fortifications.
Now, that’s just about everything you need to know about the Heavy Class build! The playstyle that suits you is obviously up to you, so hopefully this guide has pointed you in the right direction.
Now, you’re ready to get out there and experiment with this build.
