Last Train Home allows you to equip weapons to soldiers in your squad, but it works a tad differently from other similar tactical RPGs.

The main difference is that weapons are shared by your entire roster of soldiers. Soldiers that aren’t deployed will leave their weapons in the train for others to use.

In this guide, we’ll tell you everything you need to know to make sure that your squad has the right weapons at any given moment!

You can only equip weapons in Last Train Home while you’re editing your squads via the Squads Overview menu.

You can bring up said Squads Overview by clicking on the icon in the bottom right corner or by pressing the P key.

Within this menu, you just need to click on the weapon under any of your soldiers. This will allow you to select which weapon they will use, based on the Combat Roles that the soldier is proficient in.

This menu also allows you to change how much ammo the soldier gets to take with them when deployed.

However, it’s also worth noting that weapons aren’t actually assigned to soldiers permanently.

This means that weapons that aren’t actively being used by a deployed soldier are returned to the train, allowing any other soldier to use them instead.

As such, you’ll need to make sure your soldiers have the right weapons with each deployment. This is unlike tactical RPGs such as Fire Emblem in which units permanently keep weapons equipped unless you manually change them.

By default, the game automatically picks the best weapon available for the soldier’s assigned Combat Role.

Additionally, the weapons each soldier can use will depend on their current role. Scouts can use Sniper Rifles but Doctors can’t, for example.

You can assign extra Combat Roles to your soldiers once they rank up by completing deployments and quests. You can do so via the “Roles” tab in the Soldier Overview panel.

You’ll be able to get more weapons later on, as well. You can loot them during missions or trade for them when you encounter friendly villages and allies.

Nonetheless, now you know how to change your soldiers’ weapons whenever you want!
