Understanding the intricacies of flavor and modifier choices is pivotal for a successful gameplay experience in Cuisineer. As crafting new gear is a time-intensive process, it’s essential to make informed decisions about where to invest.

Whether you’re a seasoned player or just getting started, knowing what every option does and how to use them effectively is important if you want Pom to turn your enemies into mincemeat!

All Flavors & What They Do

Here are 7 Flavors that all have their own unique quirks and effectiveness. I’ll also showcase their overall strengths, and weaknesses if there are any.

  • Sweet – Great for survival, Sweet reduces damage taken. Best for slow weapons like Tenderizers or Deba Knives. Less upfront damage, but strong defense.
  • Toasty – First damage-over-time flavor. Good for hit-and-run, but not for quick kills. Early-game choice; loses effectiveness as you progress.
  • Bitter – Like Toasty but stronger. It’s the second damage-over-time flavor, and excellent for safe and consistent damage. Perfect against tough enemies like bosses.
  • Umami – Boosts survivability in projectile-heavy areas. Useful when under fire, but less impactful otherwise. Stick to one Umami source in your gear.
  • Icy – It’s basically the best flavor for control. Freezes enemies, disrupting their attacks. Works well with Plates, Spears, and Durians.
  • Salty – It’s like Icy, but it controls by displacing enemies and throwing them around. Strong against bosses due to extra damage from collisions. Powerful but you’ll need to be accurate.
  • Sour – Simple and powerful. Deals upfront damage with lightning arcs. Great for beginners and doesn’t need much investment.

All Modifiers

Modifiers serve as the backbone of your damage output, enhancing your effectiveness in Cuisineer. Categorically, they include moveset modifiers, damage boosts, skins, triggers, and durability increases.

  • Moveset Modifiers Key for triggering flavor effects, dash attack modifiers stand out as particularly effective, providing benefits at the start of most encounters.
  • Damage Boosts – Boosting base damage, these modifiers compensate for certain flavor’s lack of innate damage like Ice and Sweet, offering significant power increases.
  • Skins – These are basically modifiers that take effect when something hits you. While generally less desirable, skins that inflict flavor or reflect damage can be useful in specific builds, such as Sweet face-tanking sets.
  • Triggers Randomly activating upon actions, trigger modifiers add an element of unpredictability and RNG to your gameplay, with projectile triggers and critical strikes offering exciting possibilities.
  • Durability Increases Increasing effective HP, these modifiers, such as HP boosts and projectile resist, provide survivability at the cost of potential damage improvements.
    • I personally recommend you to be careful using too much of these, as a dead enemy pretty much poses no threat.

Lastly, none of this knowledge will matter if you have no idea how to get the build you desire. It basically boils down to Brewing, and the process is pretty simple. Here’s how it goes:

  1. Hand over your chosen gear to Ankhiluun, specify the slot you want to modify, and toss a dish into the pot to let the magic happen.
  2. If the result isn’t what you hoped for, no worries—you can always stick with the old option without losing your gear for the day.
  3. Once you’re satisfied, choose the new modifier, and Ankhiluun will start brewing your gear with the upgrade.
  4. You’ll get it back the next day.

Oh, and don’t forget, the dish you choose, and its flavors give you a good hint about what you might end up with. And for that, we have a guide that you might find interesting: Cuisineer: Brewery Guide & Effects.
