If you’re running the Deluxe Edition of Resident Evil Requiem, you’ve probably noticed the game doesn’t exactly hold your hand when it comes to the extra content. One of the coolest exclusive hidden hunts in the RPD is the search for the Letters from 1998.

Finding all five of these letters unlocks the R.P.D. Charm, which gives you a significant firepower boost when your health is in the “Danger” zone. It’s a literal lifesaver for those “clutch” boss fights. However, there is a catch: You must collect these in the exact order listed below. If you skip one, the next one simply won’t appear.

All Letter Locations from 1998

There are five letters in total, and they are split between the early game and the RPD transition.

You’ll want to grab the first two in East Raccoon City before you blow the gate to the highway, as that’s your first point of no return. The final three need to be grabbed before you enter the Orphanage where there is another point of no return.

If you’d like to get another cool charm for Leon, check out our stars office briefcase puzzle guide. You won’t need the Deluxe Edition for this either.

From Meryl To Mommy #1 – Applegate Hotel Lobby

The first letter is tucked away in the Applegate Hotel. Before you push through the rotating doorway that leads to the Titan Spinner boss fight, look to your right. The note is sitting right there on a red sofa. Make sure you grab this before progressing, or the rest of the chain is broken!

From Meryl To Mommy #2 – Gas Station

The second note is found inside the Gas Station. When you enter via the gas power gate, look at the shelves on your left. It’s sitting right there among the supplies. Once you have this, you’re safe to move on toward the RPD.

From Meryl To Mommy #3 – Raccoon City Side Street

After you leave Kendo’s Gun Shop for the first time, you’ll find yourself on the Raccoon City Side Street near a BSAA encampment. Look for a ruined car in this area; the third letter is sitting inside the vehicle.

From Meryl To Mommy #4 – RPD Garage Pathway

This one is easy to run right past if you’re focused on the zombies. On the pathway heading down toward the RPD Garage, look for a rusted, non-police car on the left side. The file is sitting on the ground right behind it.

From Meryl To Mommy #5 – Kendo’s Gun Shop Alley

The final “letter” is actually a blank page. You’ll find it in the alleyway behind Kendo’s Gun Shop (the path Ada and Leon take toward the sewers in Resident Evil 2). Look for a pair of red shoes on the ground near some pipes—the file is laying right next to them.

The Reward: R.P.D. Charm

Once you pick up that final blank page in the alley, don’t leave yet! Keep heading straight toward the end of the broken path. You’ll find the R.P.D. Charm waiting for you there. As a bonus, there’s also a Mr. Raccoon statue to shoot and a couple of supply boxes to loot in the same spot.

It gives the following buff: Increases firepower when near death

Wrap Up

The R.P.D. Charm is a “high-risk, high-reward” item. Since it boosts your firepower when you’re near death, it’s perfect for those of us who like to live on the edge (or just happen to run out of Green Herbs constantly). Just remember that strict collection order—if you’re standing in the RPD garage and the note isn’t there, you likely missed the one at the hotel or the gas station.
