Sand: Raiders of Sophie is a game that’s primarily designed with a focus on playing in crews, but you can still play solo if you wish to.
There are a few things to keep in mind when you do so, however. You have to pick a Trampler that’s fit for a single operator, for one, as well as make sure that matchmaking is set up to match you with other solo players.
In this guide, I’ll tell you what to do to play solo in this game.
How to Play Solo in Sand: Raiders of Sophie
If you wish to play solo in this game, there are really only two things you need to pay attention to. Both of them are before you start an Expedition, of course!

The first thing is simply to make sure you’re using a small Trampler fit for solo play. You can tell a Trampler is fit for solo if it says it only requires 1 Crew, as shown above.
Obviously, larger Tramplers that usually require more crew members are not recommended for solo play. They’re simply not fit to be handled by a lone player, making them unwieldy.

The second thing to look out for is the Select Mode button. You can find it on the Overview right before you set out on an Expedition, after gearing up and loading up your Trampler.

After you click on the Select Mode button, look for the Rivals section on the right side. Make sure that only “Solo Only” is checked on. Small Crews and Large Crews should be disabled, as shown in the example above.
This should ensure that you only get matched with other solo players, making for a fairer playing field. But I do say “should,” as matchmaking could potentially bug out and pair you with crews. The devs report that this has been fixed, but you never know.
Nonetheless, that’s all you really need to do to play solo in Sand: Raiders of Sophie! In summary, use a small 1-crew Trampler and set matchmaking to “Solo Only.” That’s all there is to it!
