When fighting Mecha Sonic, you must first stay stationary for a few seconds before attacking. It follows a set of assault patterns in the following sequence at first.

In a similar approach to the Spin Dash, Mecha Sonic coils into a spiky metallic ball and rushes across the room. It is possible for the player to Spin or Jump over it. Mecha Sonic uses its rocket boosters to rush across the floor.

When it reaches the room’s far end, though, it turns around and charges in the other way. The player can charge the Spin Dash for defense (while landing more blows) or jump over it.

Evade Sonic Mid-Jump

In mid-jump, Mecha Sonic launches eight miniature spikes throughout the arena in a clock configuration, similar to the third assault. Each spike extends somewhat when it is blasted. By stepping between Mecha Sonic’s landing position and the player, the player can evade this assault.

Hit Below its Quill Ridge

Mecha Sonic will hold stationary for a few seconds between assaults, leaving it susceptible. To strike Mecha Sonic with the Spin Jump or Spin Dash at that moment, the player must hit it on the front below its quill ridge.

Hitting Mecha Sonic on its quills while standing stationary or in curling ball form loses the player a life. Mecha Sonic will be destroyed after the seventh hit, and the player may go on to the Death Egg Robot.
