“Wish Upon the Moon 1: Cry of the Soul” is the first proper quest you can do during the “By Moon’s Grace” event in Wuthering Waves 1.2.

You’ll help Xiangli Yao decode a Wish Tag, revealing a tragic wish from a man who goes by Xiaosheng. He seems to wish to disappear, which is fairly worrying! You’ll have to find the person who made the wish and see if you can help them at all.

In this guide, we’ll help you get to the bottom of Xiaosheng’s Wish to complete the “Wish Upon the Moon 1: Cry of the Soul” quest.

Wish Upon the Moon 1: Cry of the Soul | Wuthering Waves Guide

Wuthering Waves: Wish Upon the Moon 1 Cry of the Soul start

You can do “Wish Upon the Moon 1: Cry of the Soul” right after you finish the “Moonlit Reunion” quest in Wuthering Waves. To start, you’ll need to talk to Patty at Taoyuan Vale and decode the first corrupted Wish Tag.

Wish Tag puzzle

All you need to do is solve the puzzle shown above by connecting all squares of the same color.

Wish Tag puzzle solved

Since it’s just the first corrupted wish tag in this quest line, it’s a very simple puzzle. Just make sure to avoid blocking the path of one color when you connect another. You can see the solved puzzle in the image above, just imitate it to easily fix the Wish Tag.

With the wish tag fixed, you’ll get to read Xiaosheng’s Wish. Apparently, there is a despairing researcher who is tired of a life of failure. His wish is simply to disappear from this world, which Xiangli Yao finds very troubling. It’s up to you to find out who Xiaosheng is, and what exactly has made him give up on life.

Jinzhou east

Fast travel to the eastern part of the city of Jinzhou in Huanglong to follow the clues on the Wish Tag.

Zhezhi

Once there, follow the quest marker by going down the slopes on the southern side of the plaza. You will meet up with Zhezhi, who is also one of the playable characters added with the 1.2 update. She’s not the Xiaosheng you’re looking for, however. We still don’t know who Xiaosheng really is…

What we do know, though, is whether or not you should pull for her in the gacha!

Learning About Xiaosheng’s Identity

Researcher pair

Since Zhezhi turned out to not be Xiaosheng, you should return to the top part of the plaza on the eastern side of Jinzhou. This time, you’ll have to look for a pair of researchers having a conversation. Simply talk to them and inquire about Xiaosheng.

Eavesdropper

Neither of these researchers knows much about Xiaosheng, or so they claim. However, it seems someone was eavesdropping on the conversation. Go southeast as soon as the conversation ends to confront the eavesdropper.

The eavesdropper reveals that one of the researchers you talked with before, Shifan, was actually Xiaosheng all along. After that, you’ll receive a call from Xiangli Yao telling you about three Echoes that Shifan was researching and which seem to be a big part of his despair.

Beach spot

Right after the conversation ends, follow the quest marker by going to the shore north of Jinzhou. You can use the Grapple Points nearby to get there quicker. Defeat the Tacet Discords on the shore once you land to automatically collect the Echoes data for Shifan.

Shifan final location

Fast travel back to the eastern side of Jinzhou and look for Shifan again. You can find him overlooking the sea on the eastern part of the plaza. Give him the Echoes data you acquired and then watch the conclusion to this tale. We hope Xiaosheng no longer has the same wish after this!

There you have it, that’s everything you need to do to complete “Wish Upon the Moon 1: Cry of the Soul” in Wuthering Waves 1.2. You can now do the next part of this event, titled “Wish Upon the Moon 2: The Elder’s Promise.”
