Where to Find Bran in Gothic 1 Remake

As you work your way through the New Camp questline in Gothic 1 Remake, one of the most important tasks you’ll receive is “Up to His Neck.” During this quest, the Rice Lord asks you to track down his missing foreman, Bran.

The objective sounds simple enough, but the game doesn’t exactly tell you where to find him. This results in many players wandering around the New Camp trying to look for clues. If you’re one of those players, don’t worry, as this guide has got you covered.

Without further ado, here’s where you can find Bran in the game.

Locating Bran’s Whereabouts in Gothic 1 Remake

Before you can start searching for Bran, you first need to complete the earlier New Camp quest called “A Few Drops Too Much.” After finishing it, speak with the Rice Lord in his tower overlooking the rice fields.

Once you do, he’ll then explain that his foreman, Bran, has disappeared and ask you to investigate. Your first objective is to gather information from the workers in the rice fields.

As such, you want to head down into the rice fields nearby and look for a worker named Malon. Speak with him, then make sure to choose the polite dialogue options. If the conversation goes well, Malon will reveal that Bran was last seen heading toward a cave near a pond outside the camp.

He also mentions that Bloodflies are commonly found in the area, making it easier to identify the correct location. At the same time, he reveals that the cave is where Jacko and his crew hang out.

Visit the Cave Near the Pond

After talking with Malon, your next objective is to look for the cave near the pond that he mentioned. This is the part that confuses a lot of players, considering that there’s also a pond and a lake inside the camp.

To save you minutes of blindly running around the camp looking for the cave Malon mentioned, refer to this image instead for the location:

To get there, simply exit the camp via the main gates and head straight until you come across a small settlement. Turn right and follow the road until you eventually come across Renyu, who is guarding the entrance to the cave.

Talk to him and ask about Bran’s whereabouts. He will then tell you to get inside the cave and talk to Jacko instead.

I recommend saving at this point so you can have a save point you can load to.

Simply follow the path, and it will eventually lead you to Jacko. Once you find him, talk to him, and he will threaten you, resulting in a 1v1 fight.

Do take note that this can be a challenging fight if you’re still using starter equipment. As such, I highly recommend that you upgrade your weapon or armor first. If he beats you, he’ll steal your gear which is something you don’t want.

It’s also for this reason why you should make a save point earlier on in case this happens.

After beating Jacko, he’ll then explain that Bran owed him money and was sent to rob Silas’s tavern in order to settle the debt.

Head to Silas’s Basement

To continue your search for Bran, you need to gain access to the basement of Silas’s tavern. Unfortunately, the game doesn’t exactly tell you how to get inside.

You can learn of a method to get into the basement by talking to an NPC named Rayk inside the tavern. Give him a beer as well as 30 nuggets, and he’ll then tell you that there’s a secret entrance via an underwater tunnel.

Another option is to lockpick the door behind Silas, but that would be boring in my opinion.

After learning about the underwater entrance, you then want to exit the tavern and look for the entrance. You can find it on the left side of the building, just below the small dock as shown in the image below:

Simply jump into the water, and you should then be able to find the entrance to the cave. Swim through the submerged section of the basement until you reach a flight of stairs.

It will be dark, so make sure to equip your torch to light up the room.

Just above the stairs, you can find Bran, but unfortunately, he is already dead. Interact with his corpse to find some items alongside an item called the Tavern Warehouse Corpse Note.

You will need this item to advance the quest. Make sure to loot everything, and while you’re at it, you can also loot the chest to the right of Bran’s corpse.

It will contain a bunch of items, including Bran’s Axe. It’s actually a quest item that can slightly affect the rewards you’ll get after completing the quest. However, it’s not required to advance the quest – all you need is the note.

Make a Deal with Silas or Hand Over the Evidence to the Rice Lord

After obtaining the note, you can head back to the cavern and confront Silas. He’ll then reveal that he killed Bran because he was trying to open his stash.

Silas will attempt to make a deal, and you can decide whether to accept it or not. If you do, you’ll get 50 nuggets as well as 150 experience points.

However, you can also choose to decline the offer and hand over the evidence to the Rice Lord instead. You can tell the Rice Lord that Silas tried to bribe you after finding out about the note. He’ll then say there will be consequences for Silas later on.

At the same time, you’ll receive a Blue Handle Axe as well as 300 experience points as rewards. You also get his backing if you want to join the camp.

Final Thoughts

As you can see, looking for Bran’s location requires you to go through a bunch of objectives to do so. This is why most players who played Gothic 1 Remake for the first time find it confusing.
