How to Get Past Thorus in Gothic 1 Remake (Enter Old Camp)

Thorus is the first real wall you hit in Gothic 1 Remake, standing at the inner castle gate of the Old Camp and refusing to let anyone through without the right credentials. Most players spend time trying to talk their way past him or looking for a shortcut, only to find out the game expects you to earn your way in the hard way.

The normal path involves grinding favors for Shadows, reaching Level 5, and completing Diego’s Test of Faith. But there is another way, a hidden exploit that lets you slip past Thorus early, grab some high-tier loot, and get inside the inner castle without any of the usual grind. In this guide, I will show you exactly how to pull it off using a simple save and load method.

How to Get Past Thorus Early On

Okay so the first thing you need to do is stand slightly behind Thorus and just wait for the regular guards to walk off and leave the area. Once they are gone, move ahead just a little bit until you get the first warning from the Gate Guard telling you to back off.

Right after that warning pops up, save your game. Then immediately load that same save. When the game loads back in, move forward again until you get the second warning from the Gate Guard. Once that second warning hits, save the game again and then load it one more time.

Now here is where the exploit actually kicks in. Once the game loads back in, you need to run straight toward the courtyard on the left side. Ignore the guards completely, do not stop for anyone.

You will eventually get knocked down once you reach the courtyard area, but do not worry, that is supposed to happen. Once you are down on the ground, just wait for the guards to holster their weapons. They will calm down after a few seconds, and then you can get back up.

At this point you are officially inside the inner part of the Old Camp. Look around the courtyard and you will see a ladder. Climb that ladder up and you will get inside a tower that has a bunch of loot just sitting there waiting for you.

At the bottom of that same tower there is also a door. You can open it by using the torch lever right next to it. That door leads into a cave, and that cave leads into a laboratory with some really good loot. All of this will give you a massive head start in the early game.

Give it a few tries if the guards catch you the first time. The timing can be a little finicky, but once you nail it down, you will easily slip past Thorus. The loot inside the tower and the laboratory makes the whole early game feel like a breeze, so it is worth the few minutes of trial and error.
