The Forgotten Recipe kicks off in the most unassuming way possible in Gothic 1 Remake. After Guy hooks you up with a free hut in the Old Camp, looting the chest inside reveals a mysterious old piece of paper. Take it to Snaf, the camp chef by the cauldron near the castle gate, and he will reveal it is the long lost recipe for Brock’s Stew. He wants you to track down all the ingredients and cook it yourself.
The quest needs 2 of each of six different ingredients which sounds simple until you realise two of them cannot be bought from any merchant. In this guide I will walk you through every location so you can wrap it up without wandering the Colony longer than you need to.
Complete The Forgotten Recipe Quest Guide
To start the quest, head toward the Arena in the Old Camp which I have marked in the image below.

Once you get there, on the opposite side of the Arena, you will find a hut with a red tarp over it. Head inside and open the chest to find the Old Recipe.

Once you have it in your inventory, make your way to Snaf who stands near the cauldron by the castle gate. Talk to him and he will recognize the recipe immediately as Brock’s lost stew. From here, the quest officially begins and Snaf will task you with tracking down all the ingredients needed to cook it.

Ingredients That You Can Purchase Directly
Head over to the Market area of the Old Camp and look for Dexter. He is one of the merchants operating out of the market and stocks most of the basic ingredients you need for this quest. Open his shop and purchase 2 Potatoes, 2 Onions, 2 Carrots and 2 Water.

Getting 2 Scavenger Breasts
Scavenger Breasts drop from killing Juvenile Scavengers and they are not particularly difficult enemies to deal with at this stage of the game. Head outside the Old Camp and make your way to the small island I have marked in the image below.
You will find Juvenile Scavengers roaming around there. Kill two of them and loot the Scavenger Breasts from their bodies before heading back. If you have a bow on you, picking them off from a distance makes the whole process even quicker since they tend to go down in just a few shots.

Getting 2 Solanaceae
Solanaceae are white colored flowers that grow inside caves and cannot be purchased from any merchant in the Old Camp. To find them, exit through the southern gate of the Old Camp which I have marked in the image below.

Keep heading straight from the gate and you will come across a cave entrance not too far ahead which I have also marked below. Head inside and look for the white flowers growing within the cave. Pick up 2 Solanaceae and then head back out.

Cooking Brock’s Stew
Once you have all the ingredients in your inventory, head back to Snaf and interact with him. Select the option that says “I got the ingredients for Brock’s Stew” and he will walk you through how to make it.
After that you need to find an unoccupied cauldron to cook it in. You can find one not too far from Snaf’s location near Kirgo who operates a Whetstone in the area.
Interact with the cauldron and craft one Brock’s Stew using the ingredients you gathered. Once it is done head back to Snaf one final time and interact with him to hand it over and complete the quest.

That’s It
That wraps up “The Forgotten Recipe” quest in Gothic 1 Remake. It is a quick and rewarding early quest that nets you 100 XP. It also teaches you several core systems at once including trading, gathering and basic exploration outside the camp walls. Worth knocking out early before pushing further into the main story.
Lockpicking is another skill worth picking up as early as possible. A lot of the best chests in the Old Camp and beyond sit behind locked doors. Knowing how to crack them open makes a noticeable difference to how well geared you are early on. Check out our Lockpicking guide to learn more!
