The Templar’s Blade quest in Gothic 1 Remake will require you to investigate the War Sword used by templars and learn how to forge your own.

This is one of the quests given by Stone, the blacksmith, over in the Old Camp. It only unlocks once you’re proficient enough in Smithing, and has you sort of spying on another blacksmith’s craftsmanship.

In this guide, I’ll tell you everything you need to know to start and complete this quest.

Starting the Quest

First things first, you can start The Templar’s Blade by talking to Stone at the Old Camp. You can meet Stone inside the castle yard in the center in Chapter 2 of the game.

Now, this is easier said than done, but you’ll unlock the quest itself once you learn the Master Smithing skill from Stone. If you’re still starting out, you’ll first need to learn basic Smithing from Huno in the northeastern part of the Old Camp.

Regardless, Stone will ask you to look into a special blade once you’ve proven your Smithing abilities. That starts the quest officially, so it’s time to dive into it!

Look Into the Templar’s Blade

For your first step, you’ll need to head into the Swamp Camp in the eastern part of the Valley of the Mines. Then, go to the eastern part of the camp to reach the temple grounds.

When you reach the temple, look for a guy named Gor Na Zar. Approach him and ask about the sword he’s holding. He’ll praise it a lot, but the most important detail is learning that it was made by Darrion.

Now, just to be thorough here, know that you could possibly attack and kill Gor Na Zar here. Doing so would allow you to loot the blade, but it’s overall less rewarding and much riskier. You’ll need to contend with all the other templars getting aggroed, after all!

Instead, the better option is to just follow the one lead you got out of him: Darrion.

Meeting With Darrion and Proving Yourself

To meet Darrion, leave the temple and go to the hut southwest. You’ll find Darrion there at the forge, as shown in the image above.

Talk to Darrion and inquire about the sword. You can reveal you’re Stone’s apprentice and Darrion will ask you to craft a Light Two-Handed Sword to prove you’re worthy of the design.

Conveniently, Darrion himself sells the Schematic of Light Two-Hander. Purchase it from him, but do note that it’s pretty expensive. If you need help here, check out our guide on farming Ore.

Once you’ve purchased the Schematic, you can use the nearby Forge to make 1 Great Blade. It requires 9 Steel to make, but you’ll need 10 Steel in total to make the weapon.

When you’ve made the Great Blade, use the nearby Workbench to craft a Dull Light Two-Hander. You’ll need 1 Great Blade, 1 Steel, 2 Iron Wood, and 3 Leather Strips.

Lastly, use the Whestone to turn your Dull Light Two-Hander into a proper Light Two-Hander. That finishes the smithing process!

With that done, talk to Darrion once again and show him the weapon you made. He’ll say it’s good enough, then give you the Schematic for the War Sword.

Making the War Sword

Now that you know how to make the War Sword, it’s time to do some more smithing! Start by using the Forge to make the Arming Blade. It requires 2 Iron.

After that, use the Workbench to make the Dull War Sword. It requires 1 Arming Blade, 1 Willow Wood, 1 Steel, 1 Ruby, and 1 Leather Strips. Quite a lot of materials, huh?

Then, lastly, use the Whetstone to sharpen the Dull War Sword into the finished War Sword. That’s all there is to it! Easy to make, as is the norm for smithing in the game, but it does require rare and expensive materials.

Surprisingly, despite the quest alluding to the weapon being a two-hander, it actually is not. The War Sword is a One-Handed Sword! It deals 34 Edge damage and requires 24 Strength to wield.

Return to Stone

It’s time to finish up the quest! Return to Stone back at the Old Camp and show him the War Sword. Do note, he will take the War Sword from you!

As a reward, you’ll get 500 Experience and 70 Ore Nuggets. Very measly reward, considering what the War Sword requires to craft. Plus, you’ll also lose the War Sword, as Stone takes it to use as a template for mass-producing it.

Ultimately, the rewards from this quest are really not worth the effort and investment required. On the upside, though, completing this quest will unlock a follow-up quest from Darrion later on. So, it’s a must if you want to see everything in the game!

Regardless, that’s all you need to know to forge a War Sword and complete “The Templar’s Blade” quest in Gothic 1 Remake. Not the most rewarding quest, but you’re a better blacksmith now…
