Your base in Palworld is susceptible to being the target of a random Raid event, so you will want to bolster your defense to protect it!

Raids trigger randomly when you spend time within your base. When they happen, your base will be swarmed by groups of hostile Pals or humans.

In this guide, we’ll tell you how to effectively defend your base from these obnoxious Raid events.

Raid Defense Guide – How to Protect Your Base

Pick A Defensible Area

Palworld: How to Protect Your Base | Raid Defense Guide - Defensible Areas

You can build your base anywhere you want. However, not all areas are made equal. Some are much more defensible than others!

The main thing to look for is how many ways there are to actually reach the base. As of now, there are no raids from flying enemies, so you have a lot of control over entry points for your base.

Example of an area that's hard to defend

Try, for example, to build your base in a spot that only has one path leading to it. Avoid large open areas, at least until you can afford to surround the entire perimeter with walls and gates.

So, in short, just try to put down your base in a spot that has minimal entry points.

Minimize Your Wood Usage

Wood is probably the easiest building material to get, especially when you consider buildings like the Logging Site. Sadly, though, it’s also the easiest material to destroy!

Every single wood building can be set on fire with ease. Your own Pals’ Fire attacks don’t seem to ignite them, thankfully, but a single enemy Pal with Fire abilities can burn down your entire base.

Stone Structures are better

You should instead try to use Stone Structures primarily, which you can unlock in the Technology Tree once you reach Level 18.

Of course, you can also use Metal Structures once you reach Level 30, which is even more resilient, but you will need a massive amount of Ingots.

It’s not really advisable to rely on metal structures when Ingots are already spread thin with how many recipes require them. You’ll probably want to save them, even if you have an automated ore farm!

A base with stone walls and gate

That said, Metal Chests are definitely recommended over the standard wooden ones.

Anyway, stone structures will be more than enough for your base. Just make sure to avoid wood structures when possible, or you’ll be at risk of the whole base catching on fire!

Put Strong Pals In Your Base

You will generally focus on the Work Suitability stats for your Pals when putting them into your base. But, you should also pay attention to how strong they are in combat as well.

Having strong Pals sitting around your base will make Raids a lot less daunting, as your dozens of Pals will do their best to fend off any invaders!

A Raid against strong enemies

At the very least, you should try to level up your Pals and make good use of the Pal Essence Condenser to power them up. Avoid having weak low-level Pals hanging around your base, if possible.

As an alternative, you can learn to build Mounted Guns from the Technology Tree. Place them along your base’s perimeter and your Pals will use them to fire away at incoming invaders.

Get the Drop On Your Enemies

Palworld: How to Protect Your Base | Raid Defense Guide - Get the Drop on Your Enemies

Our last tip on our Raid guide to protect your base in Palworld is a simple one: offense is the best defense!

One funny thing about how Raids currently work is that they seem to only happen while you are hanging out around your base.

On top of that, enemies will always spawn some distance away from the base, with big red diamond-shaped icons and exclamation signs above them. They’re quite easy to spot!

What this means is that you can see where the enemies are coming from and move to intercept them yourself before they even reach the base.

Chasing down invaders before they reach the base

However, enemies will ignore you as you chase them down until they reach the base. This can be annoying, as you have to chase them down.

But, on the upside, they also will refrain from fighting back at all until they actually are within the boundaries of your base.

So, our biggest tip to deal with invaders during Raids is to use a mount Pal like Arsox and ride off toward the enemies. Kill them before they even endanger your base and any of the Pals within!
