Master Rank automatically unlocks when you finish Uninvited Guest: Hunt a Daimyo Hermataur at the Shrine, which is Sunbreak’s opening assignment.

Reaching Master Rank

Simply completing missions for Chichae, the Quest Damsel, your new hub maiden, will raise your MR. The Online quest site is where you can find all of the game’s MR tasks. You can do them offline and alone, but it’s always simpler (and frequently more enjoyable) to do so with a friend.

Although Sunbreak does have several single-player missions that become available as you advance in MR, finishing them has no bearing on your rank. Feel free to work on them whenever you want!

Do a set amount of Key Quests until you earn an Urgent Quest, which is typically “go hunt a particular monster in a given region,” to level up in MR precisely the same way you would in HR.
