Minecraft 1.19 introduced a massive update to the game, and one of the new additions in this update comes in the form of the froglights. In case you’re wondering, these are new blocks that emit light which can be really nice to look at.

Of course, you’re not using them just for aesthetics as these new blocks act as a reliable light source. Just a single block can emit light that’s enough to cover a wide enough area. The problem, however, is that these blocks are a bit challenging to get.

If you don’t know how to farm a lot of froglights efficiently, then this guide is for you.

How to Farm Froglights in Minecraft 1.19

There are three different types of frogs that were introduced alongside the 1.19 update. These frogs have different appearances depending on the biome they spawn in: cold, warm, and temperate. The same goes for the froglights, with their color dependent on the frog that drops them.

Basically, you can find verdant froglights from the cold (green) frogs, purple froglights from warm (white) frogs, and ochre froglights from temperate (orange) frogs. Each frog will drop its associated froglight each time it eats a small magma cube.

The only problem is that magma cubes are hostile creatures that you can find only in the Nether dimension. They are similar to slimes in that they will divide into three smaller cubes when killed. In order for a frog to drop a froglight, you have to feed the smallest magma cube into it.

So in essence, you’ll need a frog, a Nether portal, a lead for transporting your frog, a small magma cube, and a sword for killing the larger magma cubes. Luckily, magma cubes have mediocre health, so you should be able to take care of them pretty quickly.

Creating an Efficient Froglight Farm

Of course, the standard means of farming froglights can be rather tedious. Instead, you can just make your own froglight farm so you can get as many froglights as you can without having to manually kill magma cubes.

To do this, you have to look for a magma cube spawner somewhere in the Nether. You can usually find them inside a stronghold. Once you found a spawner, the next thing you want to do is to make a 4×4 trap below it. For now, place some blocks beneath the spawner so the magma cubes won’t fall to the pit yet.

Keep in mind that the trap should be deep enough that any magma cube that spawns will immediately fall straight into the pit and won’t be able to jump over.

Then, you’ll want to place 16 blocks of powder snow one block apart from each other. This will be your means of killing the larger magma cubes passively. When a large magma cube falls into the pit, it will take freeze damage until it breaks down into smaller pieces.

Once the trap is ready, place your frogs inside the trap and remove the blocks preventing the magma cubes from falling. At this point, you’ll just have to wait for the magma cubes to break down into smaller pieces for your frogs to eat them and drop froglights in return.
