A large part of Skull and Bones gameplay is focused on your ships. The game has a traditional level-up system for your character in the form of Infamy, but alongside that, you also have a ship leveling-up system.
There are ranks attached to your ship, and you can increase that rank. You have a lot of options when it comes to customizing and leveling up your ship in Skull and Bones. The rank in this game indicates how strong your ship is.
How to Increase Ship Rank
There are 3 different things that can increase your ship’s rank:
Weapons
Armor
Furniture
You can access all 3 of these from the Ship Management menu, as seen in the image above. The rank of your ships shows the strength of your ship. So, with better weapons, armor, and furniture, you make your ship stronger and get a higher rank.
For example, in the image above, we can see how a better weapon can impact the rank of the ship. The green upward arrow beside the various weapons shows that equipping that weapon will increase the rank of your ship.
On the bottom right you can also see how much the rank increases. This is the same for armor and furniture too. You can find various upgrades throughout the game in the form of Blueprints.
Base Rank
Each ship in Skull and Bones has a base rank that they have without any upgrades. Ships that are unlocked later start at a higher base rank than the early-game ones.
A ship that starts at a higher base level is much easier to upgrade. Other than unlockable ships starting at a higher level, they also have more slots for customization. You can have more weapons, and furniture on these ships.
So if you are someone who wants a ship with the highest rank, it is much better to focus on unlocking new ships and then upgrading them. It will be faster, and you will have more options to work with.
