Everwind does not spell out the most efficient way to get started, and without a clear direction it is easy to waste your first few hours on things that do not move you forward as much as you think. Knowing what to focus on first, whether that is which skills to unlock, how to set up your airship, or where to look for early resources, gives you a significant head start over players who are figuring it out as they go.

In this guide, I will walk you through exactly what to do from the moment you spawn in to give yourself the best possible start. Let’s get right into it!

Starting Out In The Best Way Possible

As you start out in the game, the first thing you need to do is finish the tutorial. The tutorial takes place inside a huge tower. And the tower is packed with loot that is extremely helpful to have early on.

Don’t Leave These Behind

In the tower, you will find an Anvil, a Furnace, and a Cooking Station that you can break down and take with you to your ship. These are some of the most useful crafting stations in the game and setting them up early saves you the trouble of having to craft them from scratch later on, so I would not suggest leaving them behind.

Locked Chest

In the bottom floor, you will find a large locked wooden chest with a skeleton lying nearby holding the key. Grab it, open the chest, and loot everything inside. Once you are done, break the chest and take it with you to place it on your ship later on. It has 54 slots, which makes it one of the best early storage solutions you can get your hands on.

Here’s a clip showing the locked wooden chest that you can loot and break to use it on your ship.

Makeshift Weapon

If your sword breaks and you do not have anything else to fight the skeletons inside the tower with, grab one of the torches off the wall and use it as a makeshift weapon. The torch itself does not hit particularly hard but the burn damage it applies on enemies helps chip them down faster than you might expect, making it a surprisingly decent backup option when you are in a pinch.

Hidden Room

Near the exit door of the tower is a hidden room. You can get inside this room by breaking the thick iron bars or by digging in from the top. Inside this room, you will find a bunch of loot but the most important of which is the Crystal Of Force. It is a very valuable item that is used later on for various upgrades.

Here’s a clip showing the hidden room of the tower which contains the Crystal Of Force.

First Skill That You Should Unlock

When you get your first skill point, I highly recommend spending it on the Area Scan ability for your Compass, which is found under the Engineer category. This ability lets you quickly scan your surrounding area to reveal nearby points of interest. It is one of the most useful early unlocks in the game and will make sure you never leave an island behind without getting everything worth grabbing.

Wooden Containers

On the island, you will come across many wooden barrels and carts scattered around. Do not ignore them as breaking them is a quick and easy way to get a variety of useful items early on, including some that you would otherwise have to go out of your way to find such as Copper Nails and other crafting materials.

Here’s a video showing the various wooden containers you can break to get loot.

More Hidden Loot

Around the island, you will also notice a couple of blocks with an “X” marked on them. If you point your cursor at one, you will find that it is called a Cracked Chiseled Stone Block. These are worth breaking whenever you spot them as they have chests hidden behind them containing some useful early game loot. Keep an eye out for them as you explore since they are easy to walk past if you are not paying attention. You can watch the video below to see how they actually look in the game.

Most Efficient Way Of Healing Yourself Early On

In the early stages of the game, your healing options are fairly limited and you will have to make do with what is available to you. Out of everything I tried early on, the two items I found most efficient for healing are the Mushroom Stew and the Swamp Decoction. Both are relatively easy to craft and the ingredients needed for each are listed below:

  • Mushroom Stew
    • 2 Porcini
    • 1 Bulb
    • 3 Water
  • Swamp Decoction
    • 3 Porcini
    • 3 Chanterelle
    • 3 Water

Bulb grows in the water near land, while Porcini and Chanterelle can both be found on land. To get Water, you will need to craft a Bucket first, which requires 10 Wood Planks, 8 Copper Nails, and 2 Ropes. Wood Planks are crafted from Wood Logs which you get by chopping down trees. Copper Nails can be found by breaking wooden barrels. And Rope is crafted from Fiber which you obtain by cutting grass.

Rebuilding The Flying Ship

Once you are done with the tower, the next big task is rebuilding a flying ship. This will serve as your movable base for the rest of the game. The game will point you toward a wrecked ship nearby where you will need to scan various objects on top of it to unlock the crafting recipes for the ship parts. After that, you will have to gather the necessary resources and craft each part before you can finally get the ship up and running.

It is a multi step process but a very important one. Check out my dedicated guide on how to rebuild the flying ship for a full breakdown of everything involved.

Getting Around Quickly

Descending and parking your flying ship near every island you want to explore adds up over time and is not always the most efficient way to get around. What I found works much better is jumping into the water near the island and then exploring it. Once you are done, use the Compass teleport function to jump straight back to your ship. It saves a surprising amount of time if you like to explore every little island you come across.

Here’s a short clip showing the usefulness of the Compass Teleport function in looting an island quickly.

Upgrading Your Flying Ship

You can upgrade the speed, size, and altitude of your ship through your ship’s core. The most important of these is the altitude upgrade. It allows you to fly higher and reach islands that are situated way above your starting altitude limit. Some of those higher islands contain dungeons that hold some of the best gear you can find in the game. This makes the altitude upgrade one of the first things you should focus on getting.

One of the key resources you will need to get your ship’s first altitude upgrade is Force Crystal Dust. It is usually found in heavily guarded enemy areas, so make sure you are well equipped before looking for it.

Wrapping Up

That covers everything worth doing before you leave the starting area and get your ship properly off the ground. A lot of it comes down to not rushing as the tower alone has enough loot and crafting stations to give you a serious head start if you take the time to go through it properly.

Everwind rewards players who pay attention to the smaller details, and there are plenty more of those to discover as you get deeper into the game. My Everwind Tips and Tricks guide covers a few more, so I suggest giving it a quick read!
