Being an action-adventure stealth game, A Plague Tale Requiem isn’t really known for its battle system. You usually rely on your wits to survive and rushing head-on towards enemies will likely get you killed.

You rely mostly on the environment, and your companions, solving puzzles and killing enemies through range attacks to get out of most battles. With that said, you can imagine the nightmare of facing an enemy alone, who is aware of you and is hard to hit because he has a shield to block your attacks.

How to Kill Guards With Shields in A Plague Tale Requiem

Let us give you one example. There is a level in A Plague Tale where Amicia is all alone inside a building. You are boxed in, with no companions and a limited number of places to hide.

Top it off, your enemy in this scenario is a swordsman guard who knows that you are there and is coming down to get you. What do you do?

Hide and scan your surroundings

Find a safe place to hide. That should be your go-to move in any situation. Scan your surroundings and look for a suitable place where you can attack without being seen.

Create a diversion

Next, you should create a diversion. Use the surroundings to your advantage. Did you pass a creaky floorboard while moving stealthily about? Run through it to make noise. Spot a few breakable bottles by the table? Launch a few rocks and break them while hiding.

The name of the game here is misdirection. Lead enemies away from you where you can crack open their skulls with a well-timed throw from your sling.

Position yourself behind the enemy

Never give away your position. There will be times when the enemy will ignore your decoys and head straight towards your hiding spot. Stealthily manoeuvre around them while being hidden. Chances are, They aren’t sure where you are and are just checking the area.

Attack from behind

Once the enemy has his back turned against you, silently position yourself and launch a rock from your sling. It usually takes one shot to kill them but getting behind these shield-bearing soldiers can be quite challenging at times.
