Well, maybe not your friend, but definitely a forced ally. During A Plague Tale: Requiem’s Chapter 4: Protector’s Duty, Amicia and Lucas head towards the harbor searching for Joseph who has a boat and can use it to get everyone out of the town.
One that wants to get out is a soldier you will have to cooperate with to get through the latter part of the Chapter. In this guide, I will teach you how to do so.
Cooperating with the Soldier
After you have moved the debris out of the previous wall to squeeze yourself through, you will come to an area with a crank. You will see a walkway held up.
Shoot the chain responsible with your sling and as it comes down a soldier will emerge asking questions – he will quickly want to join you and Lucas in your plan and help to get the hell away from the rats.
It’s possible that if you come near the walkway the soldier will come out before you bring the walkway down and things will play quite the same way.
One way or another the soldier helps. After he pulls up the boat blocking the path, a moveable platform will slide toward your end of the dock.
Go to the handle and your camera will focus down, on a pit surrounded by rats. Turn the handle to fit it with tar, and light it up with an ignifier shoot from your sling.
The soldier complains about the alchemy but Amicia is quick to remind him that his salvation lays in it. Have Lucas turn the crank behind you and the platform you are on will move.
Let it go as far as possible and don’t get off even as a new path becomes available. As the platform settles and stops moving you will be in front of another pit.
The process is the same. Turn the crank to fill it with tar, and light the tar with a ignifier shoot. Get off the platform and you will see a chest and another crank to turn. Loot the chest first and go down the stairs next to the crank.
There is a torch keeping rats away from the pit, and you will be able to see another walkaway held up. Like the previous one, shoot the chain holding it up and go back up to turn the crank.
When you are in front of the crank order Lucas to move the crank of its end so that the platform you came in starts moving forward again. You move the crank of your own to lift up the boat so that the platform Lucas is moving can advance.
With the platform near you now and right above the third pit, fill it with tar once again and light it like with the others.
Amicia will ask Lucas to come now, but the fire lit isn’t enough, so you will have to move to the end of the platform and throw a tar directly into the first of the basin pits to boost the strength of the flames.
As Lucas runs, move back to the crank that lifts the second boat up and do so. Go down to meet with Lucas in front of the last basin pit and loot the chest that is there.
The soldier will come down to meet you two walking through the walkaways you brought down and insist on bringing you back home.
Here you must make a choice. You have the option here to shoot at its torch to put the light down and the rats will kill him.
Onto the area where the soldier is if you take the right stairs (the ones where he came from) you can run all the way back to where his ‘hut’ was. A chest with multiple resources waits there.
Another way to get the same thing done without killing the guard – which will grant you the achievementMercy is to throw a tar instead, it will blind and stun him temporarily and the light will push the rats away, letting you reach the same right stairs.
After you have looted the chest of the place the soldier was in go back go the stairs of the left and open the metal door. This part of the chapter will be finished.
