COD Modern Warfare 2: How to Fix Controller Not Working/Not Detected

The open Beta for Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 is out and one of the issues players are having trouble with is controller support.

Some players logged into the game and had error messages coming up of the controller not detected or the buttons not working as they should.

This issue is for the Steam Version of the Game on an Xbox controller but this fix can work pretty well for any other type of controller you want to use on a PC.

In this guide, we will help you solve the controller not detected or not working properly in the latest installment of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2.

This can also work for controller-supported Steam Games you have in your Steam Library.

To fix this issue, head over to your Steam Game Library and look for the Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 Open Beta Launcher or the Full Release of the game if you are having the same problems when the game officially launches.

Access Game Properties

Hover on the game icon and right-click on it. This will send you to a smaller tab where you need to click on the properties to access the controller option.

Disable Steam Input

Once you select the controller settings set the controller to disable steam input. Doing this will disable the default key mapping of the game set up by steam and will allow you to access the game without the steam key mapping settings.

From here, the game should run fine with your preferred controller. When the game ends its beta phase to full release, switching the controller settings back to enable steam input should work for you and this workaround is also for other games where you have controller issues in your steam library.
