COD Modern Warfare 2: Season 3 Ranked Reset Explained

Modern Warfare 2 players will find that their Ranked Play Skill Division is not the same as that of the new Season 3 update.

This is because of a Ranked Play Reset that’s set to happen every time a new season rolls over.

This was part of the Season 2 Ranked Play rework. Season 3 will be the first of many such resets! If you’re wondering how this affects you and other players, we’ll do our best to explain how this seasonal reset works.

Season 3 Ranked Reset Explanation for COD Modern Warfare 2

Players will have their Skill Division reset at the start of each season, not just Season 3. This was announced back when ranked play was reworked in Season 2.

This incentivizes people to go back to playing ranked as well as make ranked matches more accurately represent the game’s current balance and meta.

Most players will only suffer a single rank decrease, but it’s not how it will work for everyone. To make things easier to grasp, this is how rank reset works:

• Bronze Tier 2 or higher will be reset to Bronze Tier 1
• Silver will be reset to Bronze Tier 1
• Gold will be reset to Silver Tier 1
• Platinum will be reset to Gold Tier 1
• Diamond will be reset to Platinum Tier 1
• Crimson, Iridescent, and Top 250 will all be reset to Diamond Tier 1

This reset is also based on your final Skill Division placement, not the highest you achieved during the season.

However, your actual Rank will not reset! This only affects your Skill Division, and your rank will stay the same across the seasons.

You will also get Demotion Protection for a few matches at the start of the season, with Iridescent and Top 250 players getting a larger protection window.

That’s the gist of it! Unless something changes in later seasons, this same reset system will apply for future seasons as well, so keep that in mind.
