Overwatch2 is a team-based hero shooter that separates its players according to their roles. Damage(DPS), Supports, and Tanks. One of the best supports in the game is Mercy

Her massive healing output and excellent movement make it not surprising that she’s one of the top-tier picks even after transitioning from Overwatch 1 to Overwatch 2.

However, not everyone that uses Mercy automatically knows the most efficient way to play her. There’s actually so much more to support in OW than simply healing. This guide will give you 5 tips to elevate your mercy game literally on your next Overwatch game.

Let’s get to it.

Top 5 Tips to Play Mercy

1. Survival is always your top priority

This tip is quite possibly the most important tip supports – not just mercy but all support players need to take from this guide. It’s usually a 50-50 fault if you die, but I’d argue it’s more of a 60% fault if you die.

Your DPS and tanks are busy doing their role so they cannot pay attention to your position and move accordingly. As a support, you must work on being close enough to heal your teammates while at the same time not overextending your position to easily be picked off by the enemy.

This might take some practice, but once you get the hang of it, your support plays are going to elevate to a high level. Remember, it’s not worth it to chase for your Tank or DPS overaggression. Your being alive is a huge value to your team rather than your being dead.

Dead = no heals.

2. Keep a mental note of where your DPS is

Beginner Mercys often focus their healing solely on the tank. It makes sense, the tank is the frontline and he’s the easiest to heal due to his large hitbox. But I assure you that your DPS needs the heals as much as your frontline.

Your DPS is capable of getting fast picks that are vital during stalemates in chokepoints. Plus, they also help you whenever the enemy Reaper or Sombra dives you.

Just keep a mental note of where your DPS is while healing your tank. This enables you to quickly heal them to full health and then quickly snap back to sustaining your tank. Tanks take several seconds to nurse back to full health, while DPS characters are only roughly 200 health so it usually just takes a few seconds to heal them.

3. Master the Mercy movement

Unlike other supports, Mercy doesn’t have a strong CC against flanks like Ana or strong DPS capabilities like Moira or Zenyatta. What mercy have against other supports is her strong movement ability.

Don’t be a sitting duck healing people while standing still. Take advantage of Mercy’s movement and you will be a drastically harder target to hit. Constantly press shift to dash toward your opponents and remember to hold space to float in the air.

4. Keep track of Enemy Ultimates’

In most Esports, supporters don’t have to duel against enemies. This frees up their brain for additional space for keeping information like keeping track of Enemy Ultimates.

Ultimate abilities in Overwatch are game-deciding abilities that literally determine if you’re going to win or not. If you’ve played Overwatch, you definitely know that a bad usage of an ultimate is a huge waste, often causing you to lose the entire round.

A high-level Mercy keeps track of the enemy ultimate so you can time it with your ultimate to survive. And while you’re at it, track your teammate’s ultimates as well.

5. Don’t forget to use your right-click

Beginner mercy players often fixate on just the heal ability of Caduceus Staff. But it actually has a strong damage boost ability that you can activate by pressing right-click on a teammate.

Use this on your strong DPS teammate whenever no one needs healing. This ability provides a damage boost to your DPS which makes most DPS players one-hit or two-hit enemies, opening up space for everyone else on your team.
