What the Fog is an extremely action-packed game, with gameplay being one of the game’s main focuses. For games like this, the performance of the game plays a major role in the overall enjoyment players can get out of it.
One of the things most players will look at with performance is frames per second or FPS. A lot of games will have FPS locked by default, and What the Fog is no different in this regard.
Luckily for you, we will be looking at how you can unlock the FPS in What the Fog and utilize your PCs full power. The game’s FPS is locked at 60 and nowadays, that feels a bit too low.
How To Unlock FPS
FPS in What the Fog can not be unlocked directly through the game. Fortunately, there is a very quick and easy way to do it by opening up What the Fog’s game file saved on your computer. The FPS cap by default is 60, but you can change it using our step-by-step guide.
Firstly, press the Windows+R buttons on your keyboard. After doing that, copy and paste “%localappdata%”. This will lead you to the “localappdata” folder.
Once you get there, navigate to “WhatTheFog\Saved\Config\Windows”.
Inside you will need to open “GameUserSettings.ini” using “notepad++”. You can do this by right-clicking with it and selecting the open with option.
For the next bit you will need to edit a few lines of code in order to unlock FPS. You will need to enter in your desired FPS in the places highlighted in the image below. The max FPS in the image is 120, but you can set it at whatever you like.
Once that is done, save the file you’ve edited and set it as a read only file. You can make a file read-only by marking it read-only through the file’s properties.
This method doesn’t exactly unlock FPS, but it is the closest thing we have for now. There not being a way to do this through the game is very inconvenient, and fans will be hoping that this is addressed in future updates.
