Your first proper vehicle in Subnautica 2 is the Tadpole, and it is a total game changer. It lets you dive deeper, stay down longer, and actually start exploring without constantly worrying about oxygen. You do not just get it handed to you though. You need to find and scan three specific Tadpole Fragments.
The good news is that getting your hands on those Tadpole Fragments early on is not that hard. You do not need a high‑end oxygen tank or a reinforced suit. In this guide, I will show you exactly where each fragment is so you can grab them all in one trip and build your Tadpole right away.
Location of All Three Tadpole Fragments
Before you go out to hunt for the Tadpole Fragments, I recommend having the Standard Oxygen Tank. You will need to dive a bit deeper than the starting area, and running out of air halfway through is not fun. The Wakemaker also helps a lot to move around quickly between spots. Other than that, you will also need the Scanner.
So from the location of the Lifepod, you need to head south. Specifically, you want to follow 190 degrees on the radar at the top of your screen. Keep going for about 150 meters in that direction, and you will come across a wreckage. Head down directly to that wreckage, and you will find the first Tadpole Fragment sitting there. Scan it and move on.
After that, head toward the far right from where you just were. You should be able to find an entrance to a Colonist Bunker close to another wreckage nearby. Go inside that bunker, and you will find the second Tadpole Fragment waiting for you. Scan it as well.
Now for the final Tadpole Fragment. Once you get out of the Colonist Bunker, head straight over the wreckage and you will be able to spot a giant clam like object. Dive down to the bottom of that thing, and there you will find the third and final Tadpole Fragment. Scan it, and you are done. If you are having trouble locating any of these fragments, check out the video below for the exact spots.
That’s It
That is all three fragments. Scan them, head back to your base, and build your Tadpole. It makes the whole game feel different once you are not constantly gasping for air. If you still need Silver for that Oxygen Tank or the Wakemaker, check out my guide on the best locations for getting Silver.
