There’s a lot of stuff to do in Stardew Valley, and what might look like a simple farming simulator is actually much more complex than that. In fact, you can come across some hidden tips and tricks that will significantly change the way you play the game.

That’s exactly what we’re going to talk about in this article. Without further ado, here are the top tips and tricks that will change how you play Stardew Valley.

Top Tips and Tricks That Will Change How You Play the Game in Stardew Valley

There are lots of these tips and tricks in the game, so I’ll just discuss the best ones that are quite literally a game-changer.

Winter Seeds

The Ginger Island Frog will ask you to grow certain crops, but the problem is that you need to be in the right season to even start growing them. Luckily, you can actually buy seeds for those crops during the winter season.

Specifically, you can buy spring seeds on the 15th of winter, summer seeds on the 16th, and fall seeds on the 17th. You can purchase all of these seeds straight from the magic bait shop.

Rarecrow Locations

You can find a total of 8 rarecrows in the game. However, they are scattered a bit far away from each other. Successfully collecting all 8 will grant you the crafting recipe for the Deluxe Scarecrow. In case you’re wondering, the Deluxe Scarecrow has double the AOE of a normal scarecrow, making it extremely useful for keeping your crops safe from crows.

That said, here’s how you can get all 8 rarecrows:

  • The first rarecrow is a tribute to the Howl’s Moving Castle movie. You can find and purchase it on the Stardew Valley Fair for 800 star tokens.
  • The second rarecrow is the witch rarecrow which you can buy at Spirit’s Eve Festival for 5,000 gold.
  • The third rarecrow is the alien rarecrow which you can buy for 10,000 Casino tokens at Mr. Qi’s Casino.
  • The fourth rarecrow has the shape of a snowman. You can buy it from Pierre at the Festival of Ice for 5,000 gold.
  • The fifth rarecrow is a female scarecrow which you can get for 2,500 gold from the Flower Dance event in Cindersap Forest.
  • The sixth rarecrow is a dwarf rarecrow which you can buy from the Dwarf in a shop at the top of the Mines for 2,500 gold.
  • The seventh rarecrow is a raccoon-shaped rarecrow which you can get for 5,000 gold from the Night Market. However, you can only purchase it after donating a total of 20 artifacts to the Museum.
  • The final rarecrow is given by Gunther after donating 40 items to the Museum. Similar to the seventh rarecrow, you can also buy it for 5,000 gold in the Night Market.

Coal Farming

One efficient, and pretty lucrative, method of farming coal is by killing dust sprites in the mines. However, if you activate the Shrine of Challenge, you won’t be able to see any dust sprites around. Luckily, you can instead find weird mushroom-looking monsters around the mines who you can farm for coal.

They have the same drop rates as the dust sprites, so farming them will give you a ton of coal.

Easy Gold Making Method

Once you reach level 1 in combat, you will unlock the Sturdy Ring recipe, allowing you to craft it. It’s not particularly special as its effect only halves the duration of any negative status effects. However, what’s particularly amazing about this ring is that you actually sold it for lots of profits.

Specifically, you want to sell it to the Adventurer’s Guild for 750 gold each. And if you sell all ingredients you use to craft it, you can make around 4,000 gold in total. This is an incredible means of making tons of money pretty early on in the game.

The ingredients for this ring are actually a bit hard to get, but the amount of gold you can get makes crafting it worth it.

Easy Upgraded Pickaxe

This trick gives you a headstart in your mining activity, allowing you to mine resources with ease. However, you need to do this on a brand new playthrough. After starting the game, make sure to purchase one copper ore from Clint on your first day. Then, spend your entire second and third days fishing, making as much gold as possible.

Then before the day ends, buy several copper ores from Clint before the shop closes. Make sure to craft a furnace, place it somewhere inside the shop, and smelt your ores into copper bars. Don’t leave the shop, as staying inside allows you to continue using Clint’s services even after the shop is closed.

Once you have five copper bars, upgrade your pickaxe via Clint to its copper version. This way, you already have an upgraded pickaxe once the mine opens, which just happens to be on the fourth day.
