Path of Exile 3.25 is out, allowing you to set up management for the town of Kingsmarch as part of the Settlers of Kalguur league.

You can build and upgrade facilities, then hire workers to produce goods at them. These goods can then be used for further upgrading Kingsmarch or traded for useful loot. It’s all very rewarding and definitely worth your time!

In this guide, we’ll tell you the basics of how to set up Kingsmarch.

How to Set Up Kingsmarch | Path of Exile 3.25 Guide

When to Get Started

Johan the King's Hand at Lioneye's Watch

You can start to set up Kingsmarch as soon as you reach Lioneye’s Watch during Act 1 in Path of Exile 3.25. Talk to Johan, the King’s Hand, there. Just ask him to visit Kingsmarch and he’ll take you there and teach you the very basics of the town’s workings.

However, you’ll honestly be very lacking in resources by that point. As such, we recommend that you wait until you complete Act 2 or even Act 3. The main reason for this is that all of Kingsmarch’s upgrades and unlocks are gated behind Gold, which you won’t have enough of in the early game.

Sure, it’s a good idea to visit Kingsmarch right away to learn the very basics. But you won’t really get to engage too much with it until you save up more Gold!

Know the Kingsmarch’s Headquarters

Kingsmarch HQ

Possibly the most important building in the entirety of Kingsmarch is the headquarters. This building is located in the northern part of the town and hosts the following key NPCs:

Johan the King's Hand

Johan, the King’s Hand – He’s responsible for giving you tips on how to manage Kingsmarch, as well as rewards for reaching certain milestones. You can also talk to him to open the full town map, which lets you manage certain aspects of all facilities from a single screen. He also lets you add Gold to the town’s Treasury, which is required to pay for your workers’ wages.

Raulf the Recruiter

Raulf, the Recruiter – As his name indicates, he’s responsible for helping you hire workers. Workers all have varying skills and ranks, which are denoted by the icons near their names. For example, a worker with a pickaxe icon and a 1 will have a Rank 1 Mining ability. Hover your mouse over the icons to see more detailed info in-game. You’ll need to hire the right workers for your facilities, which we’ll explain in more detail later.

Faustus the Financier

Faustus, the Financier – Gives you access to the Black Market and Currency Exchange. He’s not vital to running Kingsmarch itself, but he can help you trade league-exclusive resources for gear and other currencies.

You’ll be making good use of their services as you set up Kingsmarch, so make sure to talk with them as soon as you first visit the town in Path of Exile 3.25!

Build the Production Facilities

There are four main production facilities in Kingsmarch that you will want to set up as soon as possible, as follows:

Kingsmarch Mining

Mining – Found in the western part of the town. It lets you hire Miners to refine ore nodes found in the world, such as Crimson Iron Ore. They are vital to obtaining resources for building other facilities, so this will be the first facility you get to build.

Kingsmarch Shipping

Shipping – Found in the southern part of town. This dock lets you send out ships full of goods to various regions for trade. You can get gear and other league-exclusive resources via shipments, so it’s well worth using. It will unlock once you complete your first shipment.

Kingsmarch Farming

Farming – You can find the farm in the northern part of Kingsmarch once you talk to Raulf and upgrade Recruitment to Rank 2. It will allow you to set up a farming operation to start harvesting crops. You can then use these crops to upgrade other facilities or send them in shipments for trade.

Kingsmarch Smelting

Smelting – Becomes available in the eastern part of town once you upgrade Recruitment to Rank 2. It allows you to refine raw ores into bars, which is an advanced type of league-exclusive resource required for certain upgrades. However, we advise against smelting thoughtlessly! You’ll usually need raw ores for upgrades, so don’t smelt them unless you really need to.

You’ll want to set up all four of these Kingsmarch facilities as soon as possible in Path of Exile 3.25. Remember to staff them with workers fitting them and keep Gold in the Treasury to pay the workers’ wages. They’ll halt production if there’s no Gold left, but they’ll resume work as soon as you add more!

Kingsmarch Workers

Despite workers only seemingly having one ability listed, they can actually do all types of work. For example, you can set Sailors to work at the Mine if you wish!

They won’t be particularly efficient, mind you. But this does allow you to shuffle around workers to areas where they’re needed most whenever you wish. Smelter workers are particularly useful for this since you don’t want to be Smelting at all times.

Kingsmarch Workers Overview

Speaking of workers, you only need to pay their wages while they actually work. That means that your Miners won’t charge their wages if they aren’t actively refining ore nodes, for example.

On that note, the wages for workers are somewhat randomized when you hire them. While higher-ranking workers do tend to have higher wages, you can sometimes find workers of the same rank asking for different wages. It’s a good idea to try to hire the cheaper available workers from the same rank whenever possible.

But well, that’s all you need to know to set up Kingsmarch in Path of Exile 3.25. There’s still more to discover, but this will get started easily! If you want to know more about how the Settlers of Kalguur works, check out our guide covering the league’s mechanics.
