Crafting a good bow in Path of Exile 2 can feel scary at first, especially when you start hearing about Greater Essences, Omens, Draught Bones, unveils, exalts, and all the usual crafting nonsense that makes you question your life choices.
The good news is that this bow craft is actually pretty straightforward once you understand the order. The bad news is that the last part is still RNG, so yes, the game can still laugh at you after you did everything correctly.
This guide will show you how to craft both a crit bow and a non-crit bow, what bases you should use, which currency matters, and when you should stop investing before your stash starts looking tragic.

Best Bow Bases for Crafting in Path of Exile 2

For this craft, the best bases are usually the Obliterator Bow and the Warmonger Bow.
The Obliterator Bow has slower attack speed, but it makes up for that with extremely high physical damage. It also has reduced projectile range, but that downside does not matter much for this kind of bow. You are here for the big physical damage, not to measure arrow distance like it is a science project.
The Warmonger Bow has higher attack speed, but lower overall physical damage compared to Obliterator. It is still a solid base, especially if you prefer a faster feel.
Between the two, Obliterator Bow is usually the better choice if you want the highest physical damage outcome. Still, both bases are usable.
You can also use lower bases like a Twin Bow or Gemini Bow if they already rolled very high percent physical damage. Early in the league, you work with what you can get.
What Item Level Do You Need for a Bow Craft?

For this craft, you generally want an item level 75 or higher bow.
An item level 75 base is enough for the main craft. Higher item levels, like item level 82, can roll stronger top-end modifiers such as Tier 1 percent physical damage, but they can be more expensive and harder to justify unless you are already planning to invest heavily.
The good thing is that Obliterator Bow bases already drop from higher-level zones, so getting an item level 75 version should not be too difficult.
Just do not overpay for a perfect base unless the bow actually deserves serious currency. A great base can justify better crafting materials, but an average base should not be treated like a mirror-tier project.
Start With a High Percent Physical Damage Bow

Your first real goal is to find a bow with a good increased physical damage percentage roll.
Any percent physical roll can technically work, but higher is always better. You can buy a base from trade or pick up bow bases from the ground and start rolling them yourself.
This is where you can use Transmutation or stronger options if you have them. If you have Greater or Perfect currency and the base is actually worth it, you can use those too. Just avoid wasting expensive currency on a bow that is clearly going nowhere.
The goal is simple: start with a strong percent physical damage modifier. That is the foundation of the whole craft.
Always Augment Before Using Your Essence

Before using your essence, make sure you Augment the bow first.
This matters because you want the bow to have two affixes before moving into the essence step. It gives you a better setup before forcing your next important modifier.
It is a small step, but it is easy to forget when you are rushing. Before you slam the essence, stop for a second and use Augment first.
How to Craft a Crit Bow in Path of Exile 2

If you are crafting a crit bow, use Greater Essence of Seeking.
This essence guarantees a critical modifier, which is what you want if you are building toward a proper physical crit bow setup.
Crit is usually the better long-term choice because crit bows tend to hold more value and work better for most endgame setups. Non-crit bows can still be useful, but crit is usually where players end up once they have the currency and build pieces ready.
After using Greater Essence of Seeking, your bow should have its starting physical modifier and a forced crit-related modifier. From there, you move into omen crafting and unveiling.
How to Craft a Non-Crit Bow in Path of Exile 2

If you are crafting a non-crit bow, use Greater Essence of Abrasion instead.
This is useful if your bow already has a good percent physical damage roll and you are not ready to move into crit yet. Non-crit bows are especially fine early in the league when players are still upgrading gear and do not have the budget for a stronger crit setup.
That said, non-crit bows usually lose value over time. As the league progresses, more players move into crit builds, so demand for non-crit bows tends to drop.
Treat a non-crit bow as a practical upgrade, not always a long-term investment. It can carry you for a while, but it probably will not be your final bow.
Use Omen of Necromancy and Draught Bone

After the essence step, use Omen of Necromancy together with a Draught Bone.
If the bow is already valuable, you can consider using an Ancient Draught Bone instead. It costs more, but it can be worth it if the base already has strong rolls.
A simple way to decide is this: if the bow has strong percent physical damage and a good crit modifier, it may deserve the expensive option. If the bow is only okay, do not overcommit.
Crafting is already dangerous enough. No need to donate your currency to a mediocre bow with confidence.
Best Unveil Mods for a Physical Bow

When you unveil the bow, use Abyssal Echo Omens.
These are worth using because they improve the value of the unveil step. If you are investing into a serious bow, this is not the part where you suddenly become cheap.
The best unveil outcome is flat physical damage. That is the ideal result for this craft.
However, high elemental damage can still be usable. Strong fire, lightning, or cold damage rolls are not as good as flat physical damage, but they can still make the bow useful depending on the rest of the modifiers.
If you hit flat physical damage on top of strong percent physical and crit, that is when the bow starts looking very real.
Finish the Bow With Greater or Perfect Exalts

After the unveil, the final step is slamming the remaining affixes.
Depending on how good the bow is, use either Greater Exalted Orbs or Perfect Exalted Orbs. If the bow is already very strong, use Perfect Exalts. If it is decent but not amazing, Greater Exalts are usually fine.
Before slamming, use Omen of Greater Exaltation. This gives better value from the exalt step and makes the final slam more efficient.
At this point, there is no secret trick. You slam and hope the game is feeling kind. Sometimes you get something great. Sometimes you get something that makes you stare at your screen in silence.
That is just bow crafting.
Alternative Bow Crafting Method Using Flat Physical Damage
There is another version of this craft where you start with a strong flat physical damage roll instead of percent physical damage.
This can work if you roll Tier 1 flat physical damage, Tier 2 flat physical damage, or Tier 1 hybrid percent physical damage. From there, you can follow a similar method using Greater Essence of Seeking, Omen of Necromancy, Draught Bone, and exalt slams.
However, this version is much less reliable because percent physical damage has very low weighting. In simple terms, it is much harder to hit than flat physical damage.
Because of that, do not invest too heavily into this method unless the bow is already promising. You usually should not use an Ancient Draught Bone here either, since the odds of hitting the right percent physical modifier are low.
If you hit, great. If you miss, trash the bow and move on. Emotional attachment is how crafting gets expensive.
Use the 3-to-1 Bench Recipe for Extra Bow Bases

As you farm, buy, and roll bases, you will end up with plenty of bad bows. Instead of throwing all of them away, use the 3-to-1 bench recipe.
The bench lets you place three bows of the same rarity to get one unidentified bow back. Three magic bows give one unidentified magic bow, while three rare bows give one unidentified rare bow.
This gives you another chance at a useful base. It is basically recycling failed attempts into one more roll, which is especially helpful early in the league when good bases are harder to find.
You should do this with extra Obliterator Bow and Warmonger Bow bases. It can also be useful for other valuable bases, such as quivers or strong energy shield helmets.
