Lineage support gems are one of the most build-defining items in Path of Exile 2, especially in the Return of the Ancients update. It’s also for this reason that some of them are extremely profitable when sold on the market.

Even if you play Solo Self-Found, you can still find a lot of value from these support gems depending on your build.

However, unlike the typical support gems, getting them is an entirely different matter. If you’re wondering how to farm Lineage support gems in the game, this guide is for you.

How to Farm Lineage Support Gems in Path of Exile 2: Return of the Ancients

The Jade Isles Boss Path of Exile 2

Typically, you can get support gems via Uncut Support Gems. However, Lineage support gems are obtained via a different method.

Most Lineage support gems can have a chance of dropping from the large Abyssal Troves via the Abyss. However, the more powerful and expensive ones can only drop from specific bosses in the game.

Of course, if you have lots of currency to spare, you can just buy one from players via the Currency Exchange. But then again, some gems like Rakiata’s Flow and Garukhan’s Resolve are selling for around a hundred Divine Orbs right now.

If you don’t have that much currency, or if you’re playing in Solo Self-Found, farming them is your only option.

Unfortunately, Grinding Gear Games decided to remove the 100% guarantee of getting a Lineage support gem on Anomaly maps. Now, they follow a tiered weighting system depending on the type of encounter.

For this setup, you’ll want to focus on running Anomaly maps. You want to do maps like Derelict Mansion, Jade Isles, Sacred Reservoir, and Sealed Vault. This is because the bosses of these maps have a chance of dropping expensive Lineage support gems.

For example, Zahmir in Sacred Reservoir can drop Garukhan’s Resolve. Meanwhile, Manoki in the Jade Isles can drop Rakiata’s Flow.

This is something you need to keep in mind before you start farming for specific Lineage support gems. Here’s how you can set up your strategy.

Look for Anomaly Maps

First things first, you need to locate Anomaly maps on your Atlas. Unlike the normal maps, they will only show up once you meet certain conditions.

The Jade Isles Path of Exile 2

For example, The Jade Isles can only be found beneath Maelstroms scattered all throughout the Atlas, as shown in the image above.

As you can see, you won’t be able to access the map right away. For this one, you have to activate a Karui Beacon in a nearby map by defeating its boss. Doing so will remove the Maelstrom, allowing you to access the Jade Isles.

Derelict Mansion Path of Exile 2

For the Derelict Mansion, shown in the square above, you need to run nearby maps with the blue wisps effect on it, as pointed by the arrow.

Inside those maps, look for Draiocht Hengestones and interact with them. That should then clear up the fog surrounding the mansion, hence allowing you to access it.

Next is the Sacred Reservoir, which you can normally find in the Desert biome. You can easily spot it via the sandstorm surrounding the map. To access this one, you have to find and activate three Temporal Tethers in the surrounding maps.

Doing so dispels the Sandstorm, clearing the path toward the map.

Allocate Specific Passives in Your Atlas Skill Tree

Once you have unlocked the Anomaly maps that you want to farm, you should then make sure the relevant nodes on your Atlas skill tree are allocated.

Lineage Gems Atlas Tree Path of Exile 2

You specifically want the nodes at the top that increase the chance for an Anomaly map boss to drop Lineage support gems by 15%.

There are four of them in total, each one increasing your chances by 15% for each of the four Anomaly maps. If you haven’t unlocked all of your Atlas skill tree yet, check out this guide on how to unlock all Atlas tree points quickly.

Set Up the Master Passives

The Return of the Ancients update has introduced three new masters, each of them having their own skill tree that will directly influence the Atlas.

Jado the Spycraft Path of Exile 2

For this setup, you want Jado the Spycraft.

Make sure to complete his quest to unlock his entire tree. You need to allocate the Untold Histories node, as this will greatly increase your chances of finding Lineage support gems.

You also want to allocate Partial Translations to increase the effect of your tablet’s explicit modifiers. This is important later as we’ll be targeting specific mods on the tablets.

Use the Right Modifiers on Your Waystones and Tablets

For this farming strategy to remain sustainable, you want to have a lot of waystones that you can then use to look for Anomaly maps. Typically, once you have completed an Anomaly map, you’ll have to look for another to continue farming for specific Lineage support gems.

Waystone Path of Exile 2

Preferably, you want your waystones to have a drop chance of around 120-130%. This makes it so that you can get a lot of waystones for every map that you run.

For the tablets, you’re looking for a modifier that says “Increased Quantity of Waystones Found in Map.” This is really valuable as it increases the number of waystones that drop.

Visions of Paradise Path of Exile 2

If you have lots of currency lying around, you can also use the unique Visions of Paradise tablet. Unlike most tablets, this one lets you run a map TWICE. This means that if you completed the Jade Isles, for example, you can run it again to have another shot at getting a Lineage gem.

So basically, the setup for mapping is one waystone with a high waystone drop chance and three tablets with an increased quantity of waystones.

Starting the Farm

Once you have everything set up, your next and final step is to simply start farming the bosses in your preferred Anomaly maps.

The Jade Isles Map Path of Exile 2

You’ll need at least a Tier 6 waystone to run them, but in order to maximize your profits and chances, make sure to run a Tier 16 waystone instead. This will make things a lot tougher, so make sure your build can comfortably take on normal Tier 16 maps without any problem.

On the map device, head to the Anomaly map you want to farm, place a Tier 16 waystone with 6 modifiers, and place three tablets after.

Once you’re inside, run the map and get to the boss arena. Defeat the boss and hope that a Lineage support gem drops.

As mentioned, it’s no longer a guarantee that an Anomaly boss will drop a Lineage support gem. If you’re lucky, you might end up getting a highly valuable one. If not, you might end up not getting anything at all.

And that’s how you can farm Lineage support gems in the new update for Path of Exile 2.
