The Return of the Ancients update for Path of Exile 2 has added quite a handful of new unique items to the game. Most of these items aim to expand the current build variety in the game, allowing for completely new playstyles to appear.
Meanwhile, some of them are the newer versions of items from the game’s prequel. One such item is the unique belt called Mageblood.
Unlike the Mageblood in Path of Exile 1, the Mageblood in the game has a different mechanic. Let’s find out how it works.
How the Mageblood Works in Path of Exile 2
In Path of Exile 1, Mageblood is one of the most expensive chase Uniques in the game. It works by constantly applying the effects of your non-unique Utility Flasks on your character.
For example, if you have a Quicksilver Flask with a 15% increased movement speed during effect modifier, your character will always have that increased movement speed. This means you no longer have to activate it manually as long as you have the Mageblood equipped.
In Path of Exile 2, however, there are no Utility Flasks, only Life and Mana. As such, the Mageblood works a bit differently.
Instead, it now rolls four Unique modifiers from the Mage’s Legacy pool of modifiers. Then, depending on the modifiers you get, your character will benefit from their effects. And the thing is, these Legacy modifiers are actually derived from the Flasks in the prequel.
Modifiers from the Mage’s Legacy Pool

The Mage’s Legacy contains 14 different modifiers, with each modifier providing the effect of the Flasks from Path of Exile 1. They’re as follows:
- Amethyst – Grants +45% to Chaos resistance
- Basalt – Grants 150% increased armor
- Bismuth – Grants +45% to all Elemental resistances
- Diamond – Grants 75% increased critical hit chance
- Gold – Grants 45% increased Rarity of Items found
- Granite – Grants +2000 to armor
- Jade – Grants +2000 to evasion rating
- Quicksilver – Grants 30% increased movement speed
- Ruby – Grants +60% to Fire resistance and +5% to maximum Fire resistance
- Sapphire – Grants +60% to Cold resistance and +5% to maximum Cold resistance
- Silver – Grants 30% increased skill speed
- Stibnite – Grants 150% increased evasion rating
- Sulphur – Grants 60% increased damage and creates Consecrated Ground when stationary
- Topaz – Grants +60% to Lightning resistance and +5% to maximum Lightning resistance
As you can see, there are a lot of modifiers that a Mageblood can come with. Therefore, its value will depend on which Legacy modifiers are present.
How Modifiers Work in Mageblood
The Mageblood also has the modifier that says “All Mage’s Legacies have (25-50)% increased effect per duplicate Mage’s Legacy you have.”

This means that yours can have two Legacy of Quicksilver and two Legacy of Silver, for example. But then again, you can only have one instance of a modifier apply its bonus at a time.
What this means is that you don’t get 60% increased movement speed with 2 Legacy of Quicksilver and 60% increased skill speed with 2 Legacy of Silver.
It’s technically possible, but the chances are quite slim. If, by some chance, you get a Mageblood with 2 Legacy of Quicksilver and 2 Legacy of Silver mods, as well as a 50% increased effect modifier, then you’ll get double the effect.
In other words, you’ll get 60% increased movement speed and 60% increased skill speed. But then again, this is quite rare, and if one ever makes it to the market, it will cost tons of Divine Orbs, even a Mirror.
Here are 3 listings on the market right now:

Just like in Path of Exile 1, Mageblood is going to be a chase Unique item in the sequel. In my opinion, due to the huge variety of modifiers in the Mage’s Legacy pool, getting the best one will net you a few Mirrors, at the very least.
Is the Mageblood Worth Farming?
As a long-time Path of Exile player, I can say that Mageblood is no doubt a build-defining item. It works on a lot of builds, and it’s capable of resolving most issues that a build has. Low resistances, slow movement speed, poor armor and evasion rating – you name it.
And that’s exactly why its introduction in Path of Exile 2 makes it all the more exciting. While not all builds can benefit from it, it’s definitely a powerful choice for a belt in most builds.
Even if you don’t end up using your Mageblood, you can just sell it on the market for several hundred Divine Orbs. If you’re lucky with your rolls, you might even sell yours for a Mirror or more.
