The Abyss is one of the many endgame content you can do in Path of Exile 2. However, unlike the other content like Breach, Ritual, and Delirium, it hasn’t received a major rework this patch.
That’s actually not surprising, considering that the Abyss content is a recent addition to the game, having been released in the Rise of the Abyssal league a few months back. Nonetheless, it did receive some changes.
As such, if you’re planning to farm Abyss this league, you’ll have to take a bit of a different approach. Let’s find out how.
How to Farm Abyss in Patch 0.5 of Path of Exile

Let me preface this by saying that Abyss is still one of the most profitable ways to earn lots of currency in the game. However, if you’re completely new to the game, let’s first look at what the Abyss encounter looks like.
While mapping, you’ll come across these green fissures on the ground with monsters crawling out of them. This is your standard Abyss encounter.
The goal is to slay those monsters to cause the fissures to erupt, which will then spawn waves of stronger foes. If you manage to take them down, the Abyss will then close, and it’ll spawn an Abyssal trove containing a bunch of rewards.
Occasionally, it will spawn an entrance to the Abyssal Depths instead. This is a new instance containing Abyss monsters and a bunch of reward chests at the end.
With the basic mechanics out of the way, let’s now look at how you can farm Abyss content in the current patch.

The Return of the Ancients has improved how the Atlas skill tree works. Now, you can fully unlock the entire Atlas tree as long as you obtain all of the skill points necessary to do so.
At the same time, it also improved the Atlas skill tree for the different endgame content. If you open the Atlas skill tree (Ctrl + U by default), you’ll see the skill tree for Abyss in the lower right section.
You can unlock its passive nodes by completing Abyss encounters and doing the Abyss questline. It also has large passive nodes that will influence how you farm the content.
Rogue Exile Farming

One of, if not the most, profitable ways to farm Abyss in patch 0.5 is by farming Rogue Exiles.
In particular, we’re taking advantage of the Shadow of Undeath node on the right section, which will make it so that when you slay a Rogue Exile on top of an Abyss, it’ll have a chance to become a Lich Born. This will make them even tougher to take down, but at the same time, they’ll also drop valuable rewards.
In particular, they’ll have a chance to drop a unique jewel called Heart of the Well. This item will come with four random modifiers that can enhance your build.
Moreover, a well-rolled Heart of the Well can sell for a lot of Divine Orbs. With this strategy, you can path into this section of the Atlas skill tree to get more chances of spawning Rogue Exiles.

There’s The Chosen Path where you can have a 100% increased chance of encountering Rogue Exiles in your maps. There’s also Uncommon Alliances which causes your maps to have a 10% chance of spawning Rogue Exiles in pairs.
As for the tablets, you want an Abyss tablet with the modifier “Map is Inhabited by 1 Additional Rogue Exile.” This way, you’ll have more Rogue Exile encounters whenever you run an Abyss-influenced map.
However, keep in mind that this strategy only works if a Rogue Exile spawns near an Abyss. You can’t kite them into an Abyss, and to make matters worse, they can spawn randomly on the map.
Other Things to Consider

At the current state of the league, farming Rogue Exiles for a chance of dropping a Heart of the Well jewel is the main method used by lots of players.
But you can also complement this by choosing Ulaman for the Balance of Power node and Omens for the Vile Treasures nodes. This allows you to have steady currency and Omen drops.
On the left side of the Abyss tree, you want to pick “Abyss Pits are scattered throughout the Areas with Abysses” for the Lord of the Pit node.
Close to the Surface is also worth picking, as it causes the modifiers on your waystones to also apply to the Abyssal Depths in your maps.
That pretty much sums up how to farm the Abyss content in Path of Exile 2. In my opinion, Abyss is a lot easier to farm compared to Delirium, making it ideal if you’re still planning to gear up your character in the early stages of mapping.
However, even as you get stronger, you can still continue farming Abyss and expect some crazy profits, especially if you get a well-rolled Heart of the Well.
