Passing plays a major role in your offense in Madden NFL 23. As such, you want to make it as accurate as possible, and one way to achieve that is via skill-based passing. In case you’re wondering, this is a new feature introduced into Madden NFL 23.

In essence, it lets you plan out where you’re going to pass the ball, giving you more control in the process.

As a new feature, it can be a bit hard to grasp, and figuring out how to do it can be a bit harder. Luckily, this guide will show you how.

How to Use Skill-Based Passing in Madden NFL 23

Before we begin, it’s worth noting that there are two types of skill-based passing in the game: Placement and Placement & Accuracy. There’s not much of a difference between the two. The only difference is that the latter comes with a blue meter before a pass.

In order to use the skill-based passing feature, you need to activate it first. By default, the passing type in the game is set to classic. As such, you need to head over to your game settings. From there, go to Controls and scroll down until you find the feature. Simply change the Passing Type option to Placement and Accuracy.

Of the two types of skill-based passing we mentioned earlier, the one most preferred by hardcore players is Placement and Accuracy. This is because it has a bit more player involvement, requiring more player inputs but rewarding them with more accuracy.

During a game, you’ll notice that when you perform a passing gesture, a tiny circle will appear around the receiver’s feet. As long as you time it properly, you can use both analog sticks to aim where the ball lands in the radius of that tiny circle.

While it might sound minimal, it can actually mean a difference between a successful catch and an intercepted ball.

There are several pass gestures you can perform with the skill-based passing feature, some of which are as follows:

  • Touch pass
  • High pass
  • Lob pass
  • Bullet pass
  • Back shoulder fade

Each of these will have its own trigger, so make sure to take your time to practice all of them.
