Last Train Home allows you to upgrade your train by getting new cars, with each one providing different benefits.
However, your train can only have a limited number of cars! Yup, it’s yet another anxiety-inducing choice you’ll need to make in this war-themed game.
In this guide, we’ll go over the benefits of each car and help you decide what to prioritize!
Which Train Car To Get First?
There are 6 different types of cars you can get for your train, and the amount you can have at once depends on your train style.
The Towing Bull can have 9 cars, the Grandpa gets 8, and the Hound only gets 7.
Realistically speaking, every one of the cars is useful, so which one you pick depends on your needs and your choice of train.
To make things easier, we’ll be describing every one of the cars from what we consider the most useful to the least useful!
Every Train Car in Last Train Home Ranked From Best to Worst
Infantry Car: The living quarters for your troops; it’s mandatory to have at least one. Ideally, though, you should have at least 2 or 3 Infantry Cars. However, you’ll need 4 if you wish to house every unit in the game.
Workshop: You can use this car to craft permanent upgrades for your train, so you should get it as soon as you can! Also, you can feel free to swap it out for any other car once you’re done upgrading.
Infirmary Car: This car allows you to heal injured and sick troops. It’s spacious enough that you’ll only ever need 1, however, and it’s not very useful in the early game. It’s a must-have later on as cold and sickness become more common, though.
Storage Car: Just like the infantry car, it’s mandatory to have at least 1 of these in your train as it holds your resources. You can stick to just 1 for the most part, as you can make your squads carry weapons and resources instead of using up storage space on the train.
Kitchen Car: Allows you to turn 10 Food and 10 Herbs into soup, which counts as 20 Food. More importantly, can be used to train Chefs! It’s overall not too helpful besides training, however, so it’s a low priority.
Artillery Car: Can be used to easily destroy enemy roadblocks. It’s not mandatory by any means, but having 1 can definitely come in handy if you have the space to spare. Mostly recommended for Towing Bull players.
Always remember that you can replace cars later on once you’re done using them, too. This is particularly useful for the Workshop and Kitchen cars if you picked the Hound as your train.
Venezuelan gamer cursed by being interested by most games, resulting in a ridiculous backlog he’ll never be able to conquer. Been gaming for over two decades now! Few things exemplify his wide variety in gaming tastes as the fact that he’s a big fan of both Souls games and the Atelier series at the same time. Also a big fan of Yakuza/Like a Dragon, Deadly Premonition, Zero Escape, and Dead Rising, among others. Considers Lost Judgment and Sekiro to both be masterpieces.
