Getting unstuck from the dark room in Inscryption is simple but not immediately obvious to most players. If you find yourself seemingly stuck and unable to progress, this little guide will tell you exactly what to look for.

We’ll try to keep it as spoiler-free as possible, too!

Once you finish the final cabin sequence in Act I, the one with all the puzzles, the camera, eye-stuff, cuckoo clock, and Leshy boss, you’ll end up in a pitch-black room.

From there, you can walk around the room a bit. However, there’s virtually nothing you can click that actually does anything.

To escape the Dark Room, press the Escape key and return to the title screen. After that, you’ll notice something new on the menu: the New Game option is no longer greyed out.

That’s the trigger. Select the New Game option from the main menu (not Continue or anything in your save) and the game will transition past the dark room into Act II.

That’s it. There’s no hidden lever, no invisible puzzle piece, and no secret item in that pitch-black space.

Once you’ve finished up the last stuff that legitimately counts, that room is basically telling you: “This chapter is done – go back to the menu and start the next one.”

Most of Inscryption’s puzzles are environmental or object-based.

However, this final Dark Room breaks that pattern. There are no clues to find, no sigils to align, and nothing to manipulate in the space itself.

While the solution is pretty simple, it’s a bit strange to most players. This meta-narrative element might be unexpected to some.

Surprisingly, that’s by design, as the game is literally meta-pushing you out of Act I and into the next phase of the story.

Some people click everywhere in the dark looking for something interactable. That’s understandable, but it doesn’t exist here.

Others think they’re missing a hidden item, while in reality, what they picked up before entering this room is the actual key to escape, and it only matters once you go to the menu.

Now you know what you have to do to continue the game’s story. Get ready for what’s next to come!
