Trading is a key aspect of Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader, as you might guess from the name.

There are multiple factions you can deal with, and they all provide different benefits. But trading in this game is a bit more in-depth than just exchanging items with others!

In this guide, we’ll go over the most important things to know to make the most of trading.

Meet The Vendors

To be able to start trading, you’ll need to meet various vendors, with each vendor representing one of the five different trade factions.

Thankfully, you can meet a vendor for all factions as soon as Act 1, in the Furibundus system. Here are their locations:

  • Drusians – Talk to Hieronymus Doloros at the Atrium in Footfall.
  • Explorators – Talk to Opticon-22 at the Void Dock Alpha-Rho in Footfall.
  • Kasballica Mission – Talk to Vladaym Tocara inside the governor building at the Atrium in Footfall.
  • Fellowship of the Void – Talk to Ryzza at the Shadow Quarters bar in Footfall.
  • Imperial Navy – Look for a ship called “Drusus’ Blessing” as you explore the Furibundus system. Hail them and request to exchange goods.
Reputation tab

Now that you’ve met all the vendors, you can trade with them anytime. You can either go meet them again or simply speak with High Factotum Janris Danrok inside your Voidship’s bridge.

Janris Danrok will handle the trading for you, so you don’t have to meet the vendors each time yourself.

How Trading Works

While trading, you can use the “Trading” tab to acquire items, just double-click on what you want to get.

Highlighting Profit Factor

Do note, though, that you can only acquire items if you have their required “Profit Factor”.

This tab will also show you every single item available for trade from this faction, as well, even the ones you haven’t unlocked yet.

Yup, you have to unlock items for trade by earning a Reputation with the faction. That’s where the Reputation tab comes in!

The “Reputation” tab lets you see which items the faction is looking for and sell them. Items on the left are the cargo you’ve acquired, just checkmark what you wish to sell.

Reputation

You can also double-click your items from the right side of the screen to trade them away.

Trading your items like this will earn you Reputation Points with the faction, which will unlock new items for you to purchase in the Trading tab.

However, it’s also worth noting that certain Colony Projects will earn you Reputation Points with some factions. Keep an eye out for them as you work on your colonies!

What Factions To Focus On

Trading all your cargo and items willy-nilly is far from ideal in this game, however. Every faction provides different items for you, and not all of them are equally as good.

The two main factions you should make sure to focus on are the Kasballica Mission and the Imperial Navy.

Kasballica Mission will provide you with strong equipment for some of the best classes in the game, like Officers.

Meanwhile, the Imperial Navy will be your primary source of upgrades for your Voidship, making them absolutely vital.

Space combat is incredibly tough without the Imperial Navy’s help.

Rogue Trader decisions

Drusians and Explorators are also pretty good, although not quite as important.

Drusians will provide gear for some of your companions, such as Cassia and Argenta. They also have a fantastic Navigator Helmet for Cassia, which you should get if you use Cassia in your party.

As for the Explorators, they are a good source of Extractiums, which are necessary to mine resources in your colonies. Make sure to get the Extractiums from them, if nothing else!

Rogue Trader dialogue

Lastly, The Fellowship of the Void can be mostly ignored.

They have some alright gear for classes like the Bounty Hunter and Arch-Militant, but their overall usefulness pales in comparison to the other 4 factions.

Nonetheless, just make sure to max out your Reputation with the Kasballica Mission and Imperial Navy and you will do well!
